NY week plan suggestions

I know it is crazy week. Planning on 12-30 - 1-4. any suggestions on what parks what day? Kids are early risers so morning EMH are good for us. I know if pick MK or HS on 30 or 31 we need to plan on staying as long as we want and not plan on re entering. What about on those days shifting to AK in afternoon? Any recommendations on which park on first? Last minute trip with total of 9 (4 adults, kids 9, 7, 7, 6 and infant). Havent been this week in a few years plus never past NY Day.
One family hasn't been in about 3 years but been before, we have been a few times.

I misread your title to be New York not New Years Eve so I came to help. But I got nothing. Figured the least I could do is give you a bump to get others to see it. :D

Heh - so did I! I'm from NYS and thought, "Oh, it must be like Jersey week, but for New Yorkers!" I was all excited.

To the OP, the crowd level will be at its highest (10 out of 10 according to touringplans) every day of your stay. Touring strategies are the same as for any other time of year; they're just more essential to your success. Yes, shifting to AK in the afternoon on the 'big days' is a good touring strategy, as crowds will be lower there because of the earlier close. Other than that, you want to follow the usual tactics: using EMH to hit headliners, arriving at rope drop every day, and taking a mid-day nap break from around 12-4pm, when the crowds are at their worst. Most people do MK early in the week, so hit it on a Wednesday or Thursday for slightly lower crowds, and start the week with HS or Epcot instead, and use AK as a "hop-to" park. If you can tolerate lots of hopping, go to the park with morning EMH for the first 2 hours, hop to a non-EMH park (because parks w/EMH have higher crowds throughout the day), and then if you want to go to evening EMH, hop to that park later. If you are eligible for FP+, choose those reservations wisely, and if you are allowed to get paper FPs during your trip as well, do it.

The biggest hurdle will be to manage expectations. It sounds like you already know what to expect, so you should be in good shape to tackle the challenge.

OP, go to the touringplans.com site to check crowd calendar and look for plans and such. :)

Me, too!!

I thought maybe OP had NY and NJ mixed up, since NJ Week is an actual WDW phenomenon, but I also thought, w00t, NY is getting a week too?!!! LOL

Yep, sign up for their service and start planning. That is a large group with diverse interests, so have a vague game plan in mind. Don't decide around noon that you want to have lunch somewhere, but don't know where.
