Why do you care? Cause she was one of the execs working on new technologies for the future

SeaWorld has hired a top information technology executive away from theme-park rival Walt Disney World.

Effective today, Darla Morse becomes chief information officer for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. A SeaWorld spokesman said Morse will oversee IT operations at all 10 of the Orlando-based company’s theme parks, including SeaWorlds in Orlando, San Diego and San Antonio and Busch Gardens in Tampa and Williamsburg, Va.

Morse had previously been vice president of IT at Disney World.

The hire is especially intriguing because Morse was believed to be among the Disney theme-park executives working on the company’s hush-hush “Next Generation Experience” project, a wide-ranging high-tech initiative aimed, at least in part, at incorporating wireless technology into everything from hotels to rides and shows.

Disney, which has required employees involved in the project sign confidentiality agreements, is said to have budgeted between $1 billion and $1.5 billion for the project. More on that here

You do not have to be IT savy to be an executive. And she has to walk a fine line or they will be sue if they think anything is leaked.

Yea... Seaworld's website will now become the model of timeliness and functionality that Disney's has become known for!

Wow, that's low!

If she spills on whatever "secret" project is going on then it may waste dozens and sozens of hours, weeks, and maybe even months spent prototyping.

:/

You beat me to it.

Sea World can have her. Not like anything was getting accomplished while she was with Disney. Maybe now we can have someone committed to consistent functionality.

IT operations could just mean looking after networks and servers - nothing tasty involved in that.

But if she really is connected to the secret project she could be messing up other's work.

To a point it's a better job, but it can possibly cross that line into selfishness.

I'm sure there's someone who can step in and do the same job. A big project like that is never hinged on one person.

Legally, she cannot disclose any trade secrets of Disney's. Even if she does, Sea World cannot (and if they're an intelligently run company, won't) use them.

If Disney put all of its eggs in one basket, so to speak, by having her potentially be the only one who could continue her work on the project, that's Disney's fault and poor preparation.

Why shouldn't she act in her own self interest when determining her occupation?

Well said.
