Not Disney but how to increase size on a cruise (ship)

Most don't remember that the Disney Magic was actually built in 2 parts at different shipyards and then the front half was brought across the sea to the other and the parts were welded together just like the above. The video below shows that process (starts @~3:50)

Ok, here's my story about ship lengthening. My wife and I were married in 1988 and for our honeymoon, we sailed from New York to Bermuda (round trip) on the Homeric of the now-defunct Home Lines. We didn't cruise again until we decided to cruise Alaska in 1998 for our 10th anniversary. We sailed on Holland America's Westerdam. Turns out that when Home Lines went under, they sold the Homeric to Holland America. HAL lengthened it and renamed it -- you guessed it -- the Westerdam. We sailed on the same ship, under 2 different names, 10 years apart and didn't even know it. I only found out about 2 years ago by talking with someone who used to work on the Westerdam and she told me the story.

Is that a little wierd, or what???

That is a crazy coincidence!

I believe the Magic was lengthened (slightly) as well ... not to the extent of the video above but if you look at the tail it looks like they had to add about a 30' to 40' skirt to the stern to balance it out post upgrades. It now has a different profile.

They did! They added the "Duck Tail". They had to do it to for the new weight. It will no longer fit through the Panama Canal at this length. :)

Size doesn't matter, it's the motion of the ocean!
