What is it that non-Disney resort guests can do in walt disney world.

For example:

Are they allowed to visit some resorts?
Are they allowed to eat at restaurants and food courts at resorts?

Yes to both just like a non-hotel guest can eat in a hotel restaurant most anywhere in the world. Using the resort's swimming pool is a "No-No" but visiting restaurants, shops, that is fine. You can also go to the Contemporary Resort and take a parasail ride.

Anyone can visit any of the resorts,be it to shop, dine, or just look around. It's actually a great way to spend some free time. When we were there last February we were staying off-site. We took one day and went to DTD, then rode the boat up to POFQ, ate lunch at the food court there, then caught the bus over to Epcot. From there we rode the monorail over to MK, switched monorails and rode over to the GF. We spent some time walking around there, then monorailed over to the Contemporary, where we caught the bus back to DTD.

Thats one way to cheat the system. Then again I know a way to get into the magic kingdom parking lot with out paying. it's all a matter of going side roads and out of the way. But t's really pointless though.

Cuz you're supposed to pay? Regardless, simply saying you're going to any of the monorail resorts then just -not- going to them but rather the parking lot is the easiest way.

The hard way is driving up past POFQ and PORS past Fort Wilderness then popping out next to the MK parking lot then going up past the Contemporary, past the "Authorized Vehicles Only" sign (because they took down the guard shack years ago) driving around the back side of MK, popping out by Grand Floridian, driving past Shades of Green, between the WDW Speedway and the AAA Car Care center and making the final U-turn into the parking lot before you reach the autoplaza.

That's the hard and silly way. Ta-da, secret revealed.

No, not the parking issue - he implied that what we did was somehow "beating the system".

Ah, i think since you used WDW-parks as hubs everyone assumes you went into them. It's really not a big deal. If you were exploring and somehow didn't pay the toll it's not like the world will end or Disney cares. Now, if you intentionally try not to pay, that's another story - for were all for Disney making money ;) It means more SSE.

If you take the back road past Ft Wilderness you don't have to go all the way around MK, just turn at the light like you're going to the poly, then hit the same turn-around by the Car Care Center :)

Not that I care, but to answer the OP's original question, this is something that non-resort guests are technically not allowed to do. From what I understand, the busses and boats are exclusively for resort guests and non-resort guests are only entitled to ride the monorail. Technically speaking.

When we did an offsite trip a couple years ago, and visited DTD, I wanted to take the boat over to check out Port Orleans. I asked the boat driver if it is a two way trip, or just one way and he said one way, plus it is only for resort guests. Like the busses, I doubt that the boat driver normally checks for ID, which is why you were able to do it and get away with it, just like lots of people (including myself) have had no trouble hopping the busses even though we weren't resort guests.

Actually your park ticket entitles you to use any form of Disney transportation.

From the stuff I've read, I was under the impression that some forms of transportation are exclusively for resort guests.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter I guess, because regardless of what official policy is, anyone can get on any form of transportation and no one will say anything. But if you really want to get technical, I think you are supposed to have a resort ID to ride the bus or take the boats.

Like I said, I don't care, and I've done it myself. So I hope you didn't think I was jumping your or anything.

What if you are staying at a different disney resort? Like if I am staying at CSR, can I go use the pool at POR?

Seems like it wouldn't matter- I doubt anyone would check, especially not during busy times.

No offense taken, but we have been told numerous times that this is OK. The only time it can be a problem is if it's busy season, you may have trouble taking the resort monorail, but as long as you're planning to spend money, they pretty much don't care....

Pool hopping is not allowed between resorts, except I believe between the Aqll-stars, or betweenPOR and POFQ. For DVC members, there is a different policy.

I guess it depends on how you define "Ok". "Okay" as in, "it's technically against the rules, but we never check for ID anyway, so go ahead"? Or "okay" as in "there is nothing in the rules against it at all"?

On that day that we went to DTD, we didn't have park admission at all. But we got on the bus and took a ride anyway which is even against the rules according to what you said (that anyone with a park ticket can ride). But the driver didn't ask to see any ID so we just hopped on and took a ride...much to my wife's embarrasement! :ROFLOL:

To clarify:

All Disney transportation is free and open to anyone who wishes to use it. I believe they used to say you had to be a resort guest to take resort buses, but that is no longer the case. Disney wants people who don't stay at Disney resorts to see what they are missing, thus they are more likely to book on-site for future visits. They are also more than happy to have you shop or dine anywhere on-site.

Pools at each resort are for the exclusive use of guests at their own resort. Pool-hopping is a no-no. The exception to this rule is DVC guests who are allowed pool-hopping wth some exceptions.
