Unless you're at a monorail resort or WL, you're not going to be close to MK. Most other offsite resorts are closer to the other three parks depending on where outside WDW they are. DS is closer to Epcot and HS. Flamingo Crossing is closer to AK. US-192 ("Maingate") is closer to AK, then HS, then Epcot. MK is always the longest drive from outside WDW.
just saying from experience when my sister booked a place offiste. They advertised "close to wdw" which it is technically, but when you factored in the route to get there and traffic it wasnt that great. I know a lot of people say that on site has no perks anymore, but one of the main perks has always been that you are on property and dont have to deal with the mess of the real world and its traffic. Hotel Plaza and Flamingo Crossing are good as they are usually cheaper but still on property. When Im on vacation I dont want to stay anywhere that involves I4, 192, or the 535. I spent too much time commuting for work and dont want to see traffic on my vacation lol, but for some other people it may be worth the price. Everyone has a different cost/benefit analysis they have to do :D

Please make sure to check out parking and resort fees. The springhill and Towneplace Flamingo Crossings hotels and Fairfield Lake Buena Vista are my favorite no-fee hotels. The Marriott Village near the outlets has added a $17 parking fee and $10 resort amenity fee. Just compare apples to apples!

we never find off-site shuttles worth the hassle. Some charge per person and most only go to TTC (transportation and ticket center) or EPCOT.

Rephrase - take Disney bus from Springs to Contemporary , walk over to MK, easy peasy.

This is also an option for Disney springs hotels. It was a long time ago when we stayed at what was the grosvenor hotel but we often took buses to hotels then walked to the parks. Looking at prices now I’d probably do something like this again. The prices of Disney v non Disney hotels is now so much justifying staying in a Disney resort is harder than it was

There it is. Disneys got you by the, err, Magic, yes, that’s it, Magic..
Yup, always. My girls, even at 20 and 21 (and mom and dad kinda too) really want to be fully immersed in the Disney Magic so we've yet to pull the trigger staying offsite. Though if more and more perks get taken away, the decision becomes much easer...if we ever return (we are Disneyland locals).

Remember if you drive and park at the parks $25 to park per day
I'm considering an October solo trip but I will be staying offsite. There are a handful of offsite hotels within a 10-minute drive to the parks that include free breakfast and no daily surcharge for parking. I've found a few with a 3.5-4 star average review rating for less than $100 per night, including all taxes and fees.

I'll gladly pay the $25 Disney parking fee because so far I have not found a Disney hotel that comes anywhere close to $100 or less per night. If anyone knows of one that has availability from Oct. 7-15 I'm all mouse ears.

Look at Marriott Springhill Suites or Townplace at Flamingo Crossing outside the western entrance. Pick whichever you can get. No parking fees there but if you’re not an AP $25 parking fee at parks, so a wash.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, neither of those are under $100 per night, after adding taxes and fees. In my case, I've set personal limits for my solo trip and it's not about being able to afford certain things, just a matter of principle. The last three times I've flown to WDW I went Delta First Class. This time, I'll either drive or fly Southwest (less than $200 rt from St. Louis).

Yeah. Prices would probably be less the farther out the trip is. Good luck!
