No more Wishes on MVMCP nights?

A couple of months ago when I was planning my upcoming trip, Wishes was listed at 6:00 p.m. on the nights of MVMCP on the official WDW website. Now, Wishes is not listed at all on those nights, at least not during the week of my trip (Nov. 29-Dec. 7).

Anyone know if they made a change? I know they do not show Wishes on the nights of MNSSHP, but I was pretty certain they showed it on nights of MVMCP. And as I said, just a couple of months ago it was listed at 6:00 on those nights, and now those listings are gone.

With the recent cutbacks we've seen, I'm wondering if they decided not to do Wishes on those nights. But I am really hoping it is just a mistake on the calendar.

Anyone know?

I'm guessing it'd be nearly impossible for the pyro team (and for financial reasons) to set up for both Wishes and Holiday Wishes on the same night. From my previous experience, there's RARELY 2 fireworks show on the same night, if ever.

I went to the Christmas Party in December 2007. First was the Castle Lighting at 5:30 then Wishes afterwards. Then later that night, they had the Christmastime Parade and the Holiday Wishes fireworks. The crowds were great (we was there Dec. 16th). The cookies are delicious but the hot cocoa is terrible.

A couple years ago they expanded the launching site behind the park to be able to hold two entire shows. So it allows them to show both regular Wishes and an after-hours show in the same night. The only thing that has to be reloaded between shows (I believe) are the Fantasyland rooftop launchers.
When I was there in December '07, I was in the MK with friends on a MVMCP night. (They had tickets to stay for the Party, I didn't) Wishes was shown at 6PM, with a 7PM closing for non-Party Guests. I distinctly remember sitting behind Sleepy Hollow eating an ice cream cookie sandwich (yum!) with the Fantasyland rooftop pyro going off practically right next to us...

I believe there was a reason or two as to why they don't show an early Wishes before the MNSSHP, but it escapes me at the moment. (At least for the September ones, it's not dark enough at regular park closing time to show Wishes...)

I really hope they have Wishes scheduled. I have a special dinner planned for the 9th of Dec at the California Grill so we could view Wishes while we ate. When I made the ressie at the 180 day mark Wishes was scheduled. I'll call later today to see if dining has any update, but they are usually the last to know. Now I'm freaking out:eek:

I am pretty sure that it still being light out at 6ish 7ish during October is the reason. It is typically not dark enough for a 6 or 7 PM show until the time change which happens at the end of the month. At most they could run both shows for maybe the last party or two but that would be it.

That is the exact same reason I am bummed about it. We FINALLY have a chance to go out without the kids at WDW (grandparents are coming with us, so they will be babysitting), so we planned a special dinner at 5:45 at the California Grill to celebrate our 10 year anniversary (Wishes was scheduled for 6:00 when I made my adr). I've tried getting another time, but they do not have anything left that will work for us. Had I known we would not get to see Wishes, I might haved picked another restaurant for us to have our special dinner.

And I know they will let us come back up to watch the MVMCP fireworks if we have dinner there earlier, but that will not work for us because that would put the grandparents getting back to their resort way too late for them.

Well, let's hope it is just a mistake on the calendar!

I am about 90% sure that only Holiday Wishes will be offered on that night. For MNSSHP they only did Hallowishes, which came on at 9 or 9:30pm.

I am sure that this will be the case for MVMCP...only the offering of Holiday Wishes. At 6pm it will be too early for regular Wishes anyway, its still light out.

As far as getting up to California Grill, they do have a bar area, so you can take the grandparents up for a "nightcap" or dessert while they watch the fireworks if you want. You do not need a reservation to get up to California Grill...just make sure you are dressed properly (no flip flops or shorts I believe?)

Hope it works out for all of you!

:lol:They'll probably need a drink after babysitting my kids for several hours!

Actually, they will be babysitting our kids at our resort. We're staying at the Poly and they are staying in their RV at Ft. Wilderness. So if we were to stay at Ca. Grill for the MVMCP fireworks, by the time we got back to the Poly to take over with the kids, that would put them getting back to Ft. Wilderness WAY too late for them! We need to keep them happy so they will come back to WDW with us again!

Using the "Wayback Machine" on archive.org, you can see that regular Wishes was shown at 6PM on MVMCP nights last year (way down near the bottom of the page):
http://web.archive.org/web/20071218102133/pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/mk/mk.htm

While this listing is from mid-December, sunset is around 5:30PM the entire month of December.
In October, it ranges from 7:10 to 6:40, none of which are conducive to fireworks at 6PM.

(For those interested in custom sunset times: http://www.sunrisesunset.com/custom_srss_calendar.asp)

If they cut back on Wishes on MVMCP nights this year, it's most likely due to logistical or financial reasons, not due to sunset times.

MK had an upgrade to it's pyro system a few years ago that gave them the capability to run two shows per night, and they have done it. So it is now certainly possible. Whether or not there is money to do it now hoever is another story.

I saw Wishes on one of the first nights of MVMCP while working at the MK Monorail station and was really amazed by how well it worked, even though it was lighter outside than it would have been on a non-party night.

Holiday wishes is shown at 9:15p, is a 15 min. show. You could also ask the grandparents to stay for a bit at the Poly and you could go out to the boat launch at the Poly to watch the show, they pipe the music in at the launch if I recall correctly. So the show would be over at 9:30 and the grandparents could be on there way back to their resort and be there by 9:45p which isn't really all that late.
