no more traditional animation

Back around the time of Lion King, the animated features were events. They didn't have two or three theatrical released per year and countless direct to video sequels.

Rather than killing it, I'd like to see them trim down to one major release every two or three years.

Amen to that.

This has not been that long ago. They need to look at what was done then and learn from it.

Furthermore, many aspects of the company (including their Broadway investments) DEPEND on a good source of strong family storylines, with or without CGI. I still think the broad-based, family story is part of what is missing here (or at least perceived to be missing here), in the case of Treasure Planet (or should we start calling it Disney's TP? :animwink: )

amen brothers, Disney is killing there animation studio because they are releasing a new one every 3 months. They just need 1 a year. They used to have there big animation releases every summer, or holiday season. Home on the Range looks like a very good movie, it is going to also be a musical, and the main characters are going to be animals, That is a good combination for Disney. Bears also looks like a decent film, I got my fingers crossed. If Disney kills animation I will not support them anymore. If it wasn't for traditional animation Disney would never be born. Walt would be ashamed.

Okay, everyone seems to be saying this these days, but I for one do not see it. Are you counting those Direct to video type movies (I don't)?

From what I see, they are relasing 1 to 2 major animated films a years which they consider to be part of the 'Animated Classics.' This year we had Lilo & Stitch and Treasure Planet which were both very good films. I don't count Return to Neverland as it is one of those direct to video sequels that happened to end up in theaters. So, really they aren't releasing as many animated films as everyone seems to think and I for one would never want to go back to having one every three years. We had that back in the 1970's and I have no desire to return to that dismal decade.

Cell Animation

Although Treasure Planet was suppost to be the last disney animated feature, in est (2004) they will be releasing a new cel animated feature currently called (Bears).

I've seen some of the storyboards for it, and i must say, it looks great.

Yeah Goofster, it's still traditional animation, other than some of the backgrounds, which most will be CGI based

Thanks, good, that's what I thought.

And thanks to you too Maerj, when this poster popped up on the web I jumped on it quickly and made it my icon. It's pretty sweet! I thought if I didn't make it my icon someone else might first. But yeah, Pirates is gonna be really cool!
