no more Toy Stories. Lasseter axes Toy Story 3

Honestly this is something im glad about, the idea of Toy Story 3 and 4, and Monster Inc 2 etc really doesn't appeal to me.

However while I do not doubt John Lassiters ability, putting him in charge of creative design for both Pixar and Disney Studios has me slightly nervous, i guess only time will tell.

I am disappointed about this. I think both Toy Story & Toy Story 2 were very good movies. Disney could have done a great job with Toy Story 3.

Monsters Inc 2 would have been a great idea, in my opinion. There were so many ideas for plots they could have used, as a continuation of the first movie.

It will be interesting to see what their next movie will be.

Well, no. Have you read the plot outline for what it was going to be like? Buzz was going to be sent back to Taiwan for some reason and Woody and friends were going to have to save him. Which IMO is pretty lame. Not to mention the fact that Hanks and Allen weren't going to return to do the voices.

I do hope they do Toy Story 3 some time in the future, but not with Disney at the helm. Pixar only please. And if they were going to do more sequals to other Pixar films, I'd perfer that they did one to the Incredables. The movie was great and it just screams sequal material.

Although at first it seems like this will be a positive change, I would guess it won't be long before Disney falls back on the sequels again.
Hopefully not, but that seems to be the trend...

Hopefully this sticks, but somewhere down the road they'll need money and pull out some more Toy Story movies. I saw the commercial for Bambi II the other day and the same quote came to mind every time I see a Disney sequel (especially the straight to video ones).

"I've never believed in doing sequels. I didn't want to waste the time I have doing a sequel; I'd rather be using that time doing something new and different." - Walt Disney

For me Toy Story 1 and 2 are two of my favorite movies that Pixar and Disney have put out so it stinks in my opinion, but to each his/her own.

I think that this is good news, as it means that they will have to get the creative juices flowing again and come up with some ORIGINAL storylines !

The movie is not dead.

Toy Story 3 is not dead. It has just been moved back to a Pixar team. http://yahoo.reuters.com/financeQuo...tfh67711_2006-01-26_21-36-57_n26309315_newsml. My hope is that since Pixar is now attached back to the movie if it is done the original voices may be back. We should also have a solid story as we have seen with previous Pixar films. I'm hoping this is not their first film, but I do like the idea of having this as an option at some point down the road.

I've loved everything that pixar and disney have put out together, particularly the toy stories. do i think they should make more? absolutely not. im allready ed that disney has completely abandoned hand drawn animation because they think all people want is computer animation. waht people want are actually good movies. people just didnt like home on the range, not becuase it wasnt computer animated, but because it wasnt entertaining. also, the current trend in hollywood is not developing anything new but rather make sequals and remakes of older movies that only had mild successes. i really dont want to see disney doing that. while they are great stories and great characters, why dont they just make new stories and characters? dreamworks is allready planning on making a shrek 4 and they havent even put out shrek 3 yet. the first one was such a success because it was unique, something people hadnt seen and it was entertaining. its not gonna be that way anymore if they keep putting out sequals, rehashing the same old jokes and gags. if they wanted to do that they should just make a tv series or something.

I agree, the Incredibles is poised for a killer sequel (like all Superhero flicks do).

Somehow this makes me think that now that the sequel factory has reached its end of days, traditional feature animation is about to be resurected.

I think this is good news, too. I was not a big fan of Toy Story or II, but personal opinions aside, I think the description of the sequel was simply not solid and the lack of original talent was going to make this poised for a pretty big flop. I think having the creative juices at Pixar in with Disney and hopefully spilling over to some other areas is going to make a huge creative splash and more quality work. I think one of Pixar's best strengths has been its story lines, an area Disney simply has not been solid in lately. I think having the combination of Disney and Pixar story talent will be great for the company. Now if we could get 2D animation and some original music back into the mix, we just might have something...:lookaroun

GREAT NEWS! Not making sequels makes a movie more of a "classic" in my opinion, although i did love toy story two...

I believe I read a while back that Walt never wanted sequels made to any of his films except Fantasia, and if you look at those direct to dvd movies made by disney, they are FAR from Disney standards and quality of storytelling/animation.

Great first "throw of your weight" Lasseter!

I think it does'nt matter what adults want, these movies are made for kids and kids love the same thing over and over again , familiar caracters etc. .I also think the computer animation is'nt all its cracked up to be .It just does'nt look right

The article about Disney handing Toy Story 3 stuff back to Pixar is inaccurate at this point. They did give all materials back to Pixar, but this is not a film that Pixar is willing to pursue, otherwise, they would've done it in the first place. I felt this story had promise and could've been a rather interesting sequel if done appropriately, but even the late Joe Ranft was going around asking the senior story people at Disney to not join that team for story work. The other part of the article that is inaccurate at this point, is the fact that Circle 7 Animation, has been disbanded and the animators at this point have been phased into Disneys CG animation department for the time being. I have a feeling some layoffs will occur for those poor folks, but once the dust settles at Disney, most of them will be picked back up.

Walt never ever wanted sequels for his films and some of the sequels have been downright horrendous, but also, some have shown great promise...the upcoming Bambi sequel, is one that I'm excited for...at least from it's animation perspective...Andreas Deja, the animator best know for Jafar, Scar, Lilo, Gaston, etc. was lead animator on Bambi. That in itself should be enough to warrant interest in seeing this movie...he is one of the best in the industry and wanted only the best for this sequel, which was why he agreed to join the crew for it. I'm not that interested in seeing a sequel to Monsters Inc. tho...there was an immense emotional reaction for myself when I first saw it and it is in my Top 5 animated cartoons list. Disney has yet to disband their ToonDisney (I think that's what it's called) department which is in charge of all direct to video sequels and I think that sequels, whether most people want them or not, will continue to surface, though maybe not as quickly as they have been in the recent past.
