No More "Sides" with Counter Service?

I was just checking up again on the Dining Plan package, since I just can't wait to be back in the world, and back eating all that great food!

So I noticed on the official Disney Dining Plan PDF that it does not list a side dish with counter service meals any longer. Not the combo meals where you get your burger and fries, I'm reffering to the bag of chips, or other side dish when you just got a sandwhich at Seasons, or an egg roll with your noodle bowl at the Noodle Station, for example. Anybody know when this started? Is this true? I distinctly remember having side dishes when we used the plan in October. It seems like this is just another cost cutting measure by Disney, and it seems to have gone under the radar, thus far. (I searched, and found nothing)

Anybody use the plan recently and get a side dish with their sandwhich?

Not old, just vintage.
I last used the plan in August and I only remember getting my entree, drink, and dessert. If you get a combo then it was the combo and a dessert. I dont remember getting any side dishes. For sit down meals there was an appetizer tho.

I just checked last year's PDF and I didn't see anything about a side dish, so it doesn't look like they took anything out this year. I think only some places offer them. I know we got the extra egg rolls at the noodle place in MK but only because the cashier told us. We hadn't heard about it before that. I'm guessing it's still the same and they don't mention it in the plan because sides aren't offered at every counter service place. :)

Appitizers or side dishes have never been part of a counter-service meal entitlement on the Disney Dinning Plan in either 2005 or 2006. This meal simply includes:

1 Entree or Entree combo
1 Desert
1 Non-alcoholic beverage
Tax and any gratuity required
Guest under the age of 10 are required to order off the child menu if available.

Most (but not all) Counter-Service Entrees automatically come as a Combo to include fries, fruit or chips.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

Huh. That's odd. Perhaps it's because our cahiers always told us to go back and get a bag of chips or an egg roll. Could it have just been our particular servers, who weren't familliar with the plan? On more than one occasion we got the sandwiches in Seasons, and my DH got a bag of chips ( that wasn't mentioned in the menu as part of the package) and I got a container of tomato and mozzerella salad a few times. We weren't charged for any of them.

As for whether you "need" that extra side... DH just likes his chips with his ham and salami grinder.

When the meal plan was first introduced the menu boards did not always list the "entree combo" as this was new for many locations. Your server was correct to instruct you to pick out your chips or other select item. You should see now that the menus at most counter locations will list only the entree combo, showing what "side" item is included. The entree will still available alone too for those guest who request it.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

Okay, with all the food that you get with the plan, do you really need that extra bag of chips. I know I probably shouldn't eat them, but if I had them I would eat them, so I know I'm better off without them.:slurp:

When we last ate at china the combos did not include an eggroll, but we paid extra to get them because they are awsome!

I agree with the others, its very hard to go hungry with the disney dining plan.
