Are they really going to tear down all of the phasades (spelling) on residential street?!

WHY? Some of the greatest TV shows used those houses!

Home Improvement
Golden Girls
I Dream of Genie
Bewitched

Can't think of any others but why would they knock them down?

:( :( :( :(

I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched were filmed in Hollywood in the 1960s, not here. I think you were thinking of the original Univeral Studios in California, not Disney/MGM Studios in Florida!

I also don’t recall them ever claiming that any of these were used for Home Improvement and the Golden Girls… Well that show had been in production for half a decade before this park opened and they always showed the same stock footage of the outside of that house (it was either sunny, rainy or at night).

Residential street had the "houses" for Golden Girls, and Empty Nest, and I'm sure there were others used for a few other minor productions at some point in time.

Neither one of those houses were at Universal Studios. The Golden Girls and Empty Nest along with Verns house from all those films were located at MGM.

I just recently read that Golden Girls is the most popular re-run on TV!

No wonder I can't turn on my TV w/o seeing it on any time day or night.:(

So where did they get the exterior shots for Golden Girls and Empty Nest from before the Florida parks? Golden Girls started production in the spring of ‘85 and Empty nest started production in the 97/98 winter season. MGM didn’t open till May of ‘89. While it is unlikely but possible that they finished with residential street well over a year before the rest of the park opened, how could they have possibly gotten the Golden Girls shots?

I think it is far more likely that these were recreations of the facades or homes that were used. The exteriors were after all were the same shots shown in pretty much every episode.

Not sure about Empty Nest, but I did find some information online that said that the real house originally used in "The Golden Girls" was actually a real house in Brentwood California. When they were building MGM Studios in Florida, they made a replica of the house for residential street. Shots of the MGM house were then used between the 1988 and 1992 seasons.

Seinfeld still gets excelent ratings. Almost the same ratings as a primetime show. I find it hard to believe that more people watch the Golden Girls than Seinfeld.

I also read the article about the Golden Girls. It is very popular and the ratings for the reruns are higher than when the show ORIGINALLY aired. Personally, I always liked that show.

Er..... This is strictly My Opinion, but i wouldnt exactly call any of those aforementioned shows "Great." I wouldn't go to a venue that had recreations of those houses. I don't find those exteriors to be entertaining. So knocking them down because they arent all that popular and replacing it with something that is going to draw huge crowds... well that makes perfect economic sense.
(Although if you had Dr. Cliff Huxtable's house where i could get some Jello Pudding Pops, well then... we're cookin. :D )

On the whole, i'd find a stunt show to be much more entertaning then the golden girls. Just my opinion..... On Television, the Drug of the Nation.

That is just hilarious. It goes towards my point in another thread about the whole back lot thing being a total joke. The original house was shot on location but they opened up a theme park and needed to show how they make and use these mock houses so they built one and changed out the stock footage that they used of the real one for the fake one so they could honestly say it was how this kind of thing was filmed they probably did the exact same thing with Empty Nest.

They should have done a recreation of the Brady Bunch back yard – that would have been FAR more interesting and true to life!

The only time I paid attention to Residential Street was during the Osbourne Lights.

Christmas lights belong on homes.:D It worked very well and Iloved the 3D glasses last year:cool:

I just can't see the Osbourne Lights on anything but "homes".:(

Any suggestions on where they can go and have the same effect?

They certainly cannot have the same effect as they did on Residential Street, but they can, I bet, look decent decking out New York Street! ;) :D

Honestly, I think we can all see that, especially w/ Hunchback gone, the entire New York Street area of the park is dead, and with Residential Street, it has gotten to a point where most kids have no idea what any of those shows were, so they really either needed to replace the houses with more modern ones or just knock them down altogether. At least the new stunt show will breath new life into this very tired-looking area of the park.
