No More Pal Mickey Rentals As of Dec 1st

I've hear similar things about different ways to inform you of fastpass times and PS reservations. One of them being that maybe your Pal Mickey could tell you that. (In addition to a call to your cell phone and such.)

Heard that awhile ago and only as one of those perhaps on the drawing board things. Love to hear if anything more concrete came to pass. (In either direction - to move forward with it, or to scrap it.)

We got our MY pal Mickey in Dec. I love it and so does my child. I would not give him up for the world. I was thinking about buying a second one so that both my son and I have one each but now reading that they will be coming out with a 2.0 version I will have to wait. My husband thinks it is too funny that my son of 2 and I can not share My pal Mickey.

Yup, rentals are ceasing. You can still buy them outright. Though I've heard that some places are selling them discounted. (Apparently a Miami Disney Store not only had them, but is now selling them at $27.) Most Disney Stores didn't have them for sale by the way.

Not to fear. They're not going away. In fact, they've been such a success that 2.0 is coming out. So many people bought them rather then rent them - something Disney never expected - that they're shifting gears for the 2.0 release next year.

Already it's rumored that 2.0 will be more interactive as well as offer a lanyard way to carry him. He's also supposed to have a whole new wardrobe and might even be joined by Pal Pooh or such. (Other characters have been on the rumor-mill for a year.)

1.0 will still work. Though you'll need 2.0 to get the newer interactivity. No idea on price for the new one and no idea if he'll be the same size as the current one.

Currently, they cost $60, work in all four parks and he will say things at home (though it's random jokes as opposed to the location-sensitive topics he also says in the park) as well as play three games.

I've owned one since April and have taken him a dozen times to the parks. It's a lot of fun. I'm interested to see what improvements they make for 2.0 though I'm a little miffed about having to buy a second one to get the better technology. But hey, that's how all technology is. Always behind the the latest and greatest!

Thanks for the information, MissM. We were going to buy one this December, but know maybe we'll hold out for the 2.0 model.

I think it would be cool sitting in your humble aboad and getting park information. I dont know, just a thought.......

I agree! I don't know why I'd need to know that the line for Splash Mountain is short or that Minnie Mouse is outside Spaceship Earth while I'm home in Pennsylvania, but I'd think that was cool just the same. I guess it would sort of take you back to Disneyworld (and make you want to go back) anytime you turned Pal Mickey on.

I think the best thing would be to make it come out of his tail or something

Could it possibly be that the Pal Mickeys being sold in the discount stores are rental returns?

I would have to think that each time a rental went out that it would be a new Mickey to avoid complaints of having to keep a second hand Mickey as opposed to someone who bought him out-right. What do you do with all those rentals?? Sell them at a discount for $27 + tax.
They technically aren't refurbished and they aren't technically returns either. They're more like demo models

Could you give us an idea of just how many there are at the outlet store ? I was actually trying to buy one in advance of our December trip, but now we can stop on the way and hope they still have one.
