It seems like forever since i've read about disney adding things.. has there been any animal kingdom, mgm, or epcot new attractions this decade? every time news hits from disney world it just seems that its another cut.. off kilter, drawings at mgm, disney quest, etc.. with no equal value additions going in.

They just seem to be going in the opposite direction that universal is recently.. like i don't think disney ever added something of value to replace the loss of experience from having a horrible ending in spaceship earth or the broken yeti.

Anyone else starting to split their time with universal a bit? I can't be the only one. Last two vacations I've started to stay a few nights at Cabana Bay and probably will be spending more time there during my next few vacations as their new water park Volcano Bay and Nintendo Land will probably be open way before disney fixes mgm.. or builds a new epcot ride.. or even fixes the yeti.

I'm going to really miss the Animation Academy. I remember one artist promised they would do a drawing session of Marie The Kitten during my Senior Trip at the end of our drawing session for Woody.

Well Disney Quest has been in decline for a while now. It was decent when it first opened but over time it lost ground. So I'm not broken up about it going. DS is an NBA fan and although I'm not as big a fan as he is, the concept of an NBA experience going in DQ's place will be popular with a huge segment of guests and might be a decent replacement. ( I'm more of an NFL/ MBL fan ) I am however sad about the other losses that have been taken from us. And other parks/ tourist attraction sites will always have some kind of draw away from Disney no matter what they do but it will never be enough to greatly impact WDW.

Not interested in the NBA thing but didn't care for DQ either. I'm much more upset about the closure of the Animation area. This is a fun way to spend some time and "compete" with family for the best drawing, AND to get out of the heat. Can't wait to see what they do with DHS though, there must be quite the plan for them to keep closing so much.

Animation Academy was great, and there was always at least a 20 minute wait. We still have the Agent P picture from the artist framed and on the wall--from 2013. This thread makes a good point that virtually nothing big and new has been done for a few years other than the Fantasyland expansion. Star Tours was redone, and now Norway is getting taken over by Frozen (which is a very debatable change). Hopefully Avatarland will be great, but it indeed has been quite a while since something truly big was done. MK opened in the 70s. Epcot opened in the early 80s. Studios opened in the late 80s. And AK opened in the 90s. Truly, nothing of that magnitude has happened since, and even the Disney defenders are having a hard time getting overly excited. Face it, "Let's go to Disney World to see the new Fantasyland" doesn't ring as loudly as, "Let's go to Disney World to see the new park!"

Comparison: Most of us remember as a kid when the Christmas tree came into the house. But who remembers when a particular new ornament was first put on that tree? One is monumental, the other is trimming.

Yes
I visited the academy for the first time this month and drew Dug from Up. I was really looking forward to going back so I would have the chance to draw someone else... too bad that won't happen. Oh well, at least we'll still have drawing requests at Art of Disney stores.

My wife called me as I was driving on the way home from work to tell me the bad news. I'm very bummed about it. I've always loved DisneyQuest. I could spend all day there, aging though it was. What sucks more is that I really wanted to bring my stepson there, and now he may never get to experience it, depending on when they close it next year. We went last year for our honeymoon/familymoon, and just couldn't find the time to do it. As for the Animation Academy, I had never done it before(would've never been interested), and I'm very thankful that my wife and stepson dragged me along to do it. We got to draw Stitch, and it was really fun. My son was also celebrating his 9th birthday at the time, and he got to keep the sketch that the animator did. Very good times and great memories. I just hope I can make memories with him at DisneyQuest before it's too late.

Our grandson's loved Animation Academy. That's a big loss for our family too.

Yes, I am spending more and more time at Universal each trip. They have so much to offer these days and I always have blast.

Well, this stinks.
BTW sorry to "hijack" the thread... is your profile pic from DL? Are Anna and Elsa together there? I don't like how they're separate at WDW. Just sayin.:( Oh, and I am looking forward to a big announcement when D23 happens about what the heck they're gonna do with all the things that have closed at DHS!
