No Fiesta?

Yes, I LOVE "the song", and the original attraction itself was my favorite in World Showcase and one of my top 5 all time at Epcot. It's like a dose of the DL Pirates in the begining, (the outdoor nightime atmosphere next to a restaurant) but then later throws in elements of IASW and If You Had Wings.

I think some people remember the song as "la la la la la" because when the song is first heard in the room with the children, that DOES appear to be what they are saying.

My memory of hearing words comes from the scenes after that, the If You Had Wings inspired segments. Such as "Ola mis amis, we hate to see you go" or something like that.

I think the song is called "Fiestas In Mexico" or "Vistas In Mexico", based on a listing of WDW songs at the now defunct Walt Disney World Song Archive.

Sadly, it was one of the few original Epcot songs never released on an "Official Album". Maybe if the long awaited Epcot boxed set ever sees the light of day, El Rio will finally be released as an audio "ride-through" in all it's glory.

I am looking forward to the reopening of the ride and hope to ride it when I visit Epcot this weekend for opening weekend of the F&G Festival.

I too am seriously hoping "the song" is still there!

*In a sarcastic voice* It sounds like they've been working hard during the Year of a Million Dreams. Hopefully it's not the construction crew who's dreaming...

I can empathize with those that planned on seeing the ride open, but anyone whe's ever done a mechanical or technical project knows that sometimes "stuff happens." I'm sure that the ride will be better after the delay than if they had hurried the opening to meet a 4/2 deadline and in the long-term I think that is the most important thing.

While that may be true, an update saying the deadline will not be met would have been nice

I agree with this sentiment. But, they may not have known in advance. If they did know for days or weeks that the grand opening date wasn't going to be met I wholeheartedly concur that some notice would have been nice.

So during the rehab, if you are eating at the restaurant can you see anything, was the water drained.

Good question... does anyone have the answer to it? I'd like to find out. Did they put a barrier at the edge of the restaurant so you could not see into the river?

I never went into the restaurant seating area, but from the entrance to the seating area you cannot see anything. There is a temporary wall up blocking the view.

How do you know

Well, where were they? Reports say there was no one standing out in front to tell guests that the ride was not operating and the pavilion apparently was no more staffed than normal. I think it's pretty clear they know or had at the very least had an idea if it was going to be open on time or not.

they aren't scheduling anyone to operate it until saturday - the actual day it will open

there were people standing in the bazaar stores that could've answered questions

Well, let's hope the managers explained the situation to those CM's. I doubt they did. Better yet, the managers could have made an appearance.

So, if you work at WDW, how does this theory apply it's self? My brain hurts... :hammer:

I never really considered that possibility. However I would assume that since you are working at the happiest and most magical place on Earth, a bad day working at WDW would still be better than a great day working anywhere else. :veryconfu :lookaroun

Is this just a freak thing or is this par for the course when it comes to rehab reopenings? The ride was supposed to be open April 1 and is still not as of today from what has been posted.

The reason this concerns me is I am debating on dates for my September visit. The Haunted Mansion is scheduled to reopen September 12.

Should I plan for a late Sept or is that Sept 12 opening pretty acurate?

It used to be heck-or-highwater an attraction would open on the announced date. Test Track was a major attraction that broke this rule - signifigantly.

Thus, when Journey into Imagination w/ Figment opened I rode it with an Imagineer in the front vehicle with a clipboard taking notes as pretty much everything in the ride failed.

Then lately things have been changing. Monsters Inc pushed back it's opening signifgantly, the Nemo subs at DL have been pushed back several times, and Nemo at Epcot opened but with many downtimes and closesures.

And now Gran Fiesta is pushed back.. no known "official" opening date.

The only constant between these attractions seems to be Lasseter. He came on and all the refurb/build schedules since then have been a bit "wonky" to say the least.

Good point.

I hope there is a Donald animatronic in the attraction and not just animation! (I know, it's a long shot -- I can still hope) :o

Merf, I feel you pain. But given that Disney had a record year with 112 million people at the parks last year, I sincerely doubt they are going to go back to their old ways and show more consideration for guests. It's sad, but it's business.
