No EMHs for "Shades of Green" Guests

It was quite disappointing to find out that Shades of Green guests were no longer aloud access to Extra Magic Hours.

I went to the Army MWR site (they operate the Armed Forces Recreation Centers) and sent a comment expressing my unhappiness via their website. I would urge all other prospective guests of Shades of Green and other patriotic-minded Disney fans to send a message to Army MWR to ask them to allow Shades of Green's military guests the same EMH priviledges guests of other "on site" Disney resorts have.

Here is the link to make your comments:

Here is a copy of my comments:

I am writing in reference to the new policy at Shades of Green concerning the Disney parks "Extra Magic Hours" program. I was told by the staff there that Shades of Green no longer participates in the "Extra Magic Hours (EMHs)" program.

When we stayed at Shades of Green last year (Mar '05), guests were able to participate in the "EMHs". We very much enjoyed this option as we were able to stay in the parks for three extra hours with limited crowds.

I currently have an eight day trip to SoG/Disney planned for the end of Feb and in scheduling my families activities for this trip, I factored the "EMHs" into it heavily. I was extremely disappointed to learn of it being discontinued.

Another thing that upsets me about this policy change is the fact that there is nothing on the SoG website that indicates that guests are not going to have access to the "EMHs". Also, it would have been nice to gotten some sort of e-mail notification of this change of policy. If I would have known about it earlier, I could have altered my plans and stayed at one of the Disney resorts at the reduced annual passholder rates. It is now too late to take advantage of those rates and, more importantly, to participate in the "EMH" program.

I respectfully request that you reconsider this policy and reestablish the "EMH" program immediately. While it is a great benefit to have SoG, it would be nice to be afforded the same priviledges that other Disney "on-site" guests have access to including guests at the other non-Disney owned "on-site" hotels such as the Dolphin and Swan.

Thanks.

I understand that all resorts have to pay for EMH, but Disney gave it to Shades of Green FOR FREE prior to 1 Jan 06. Why shouldn't we be upset with Disney at this change? If they were always charging for it and now Shades of Green decided not to pay for it, that would be different. But now you're asking a hotel that caters to the military and charges considerably less than any comparable Disney resorts to pony up another $200,000 so it can continue a previously free service.

That's like a crack dealer giving you the first one for free.... ;)

I believe you misread the SOG's manager's message. Disney started charging ALL resorts for EMH when they added the night time 3 hour EMH. The change didn't have anything to do with SOG, but the addition of the extended night EMH.

I'm not sure I got that out of that e-mail. He said that Disney "covers the cost" by charging more for the rooms and having more rooms. But that could just mean that they are able to cover the additional costs of running EMHs through the price and volume of the Disney resort rooms. I'm not sure how Disney would bill Disney for this...

I'm sure they charge the Swan and Dolphin for the EMHs privileges though.

I agree with wannab@dis. IF you reread the response from SOG they paid the fee in 2005(meaning SOG not Disney) but felt it wasn't worth it to pay the fee in 2006.
"In 2005 we made the decision to pay the fee and monitor guest usage of the program. We found that a majority of our guests never participated in the program"

And also that Disney began charging with the addition of nighttime EMH not as a slap in the face to military.
" As Disney changed and enhanced the program last year from what was originally an additional 1 hour early admission to the current version which includes early admission on select days and late closing on others, a fee was charged to Shades of Green to offset the costs of operating the program. "
