No Dining Plan Newbie Questions

I have read reports on how Disney has added water coolers with lemon around the parks with paper cups.

They're not "coolers" per se and not always self serve. They are like the ones that @Tuvalu posted below and they were in/near at least one TS in every Park. They had them in the lobby area of the Brown Derby in June when we were there and there was a CM serving you water if you wanted it.

I have only seen these outside table service restaurants. This was on the porch as we waited to be called into Crystal Palace:

Same here! (July being our 5th trip but first time no dining plan.) Are you testing to see if it's worth it? That is what we're doing. I'm going to put the exact amount it would cost onto a prepaid card, an idea I got from the fine folks here.
All of our previous trips had free Dining Plan when we were going and as a family of 5 we always opted for the free Dining Plan rather than the room discount. Well since we can only go in July this time we are using a room discount since no Dining Plan is being offered.

I'm actually ok with this. It seems like there is so much planning involved with the FP+ and the EMH so it's going to be nice to not have to always be worrying about what time it is so that we won't miss our reservation. Although, I can't go to Disney and not eat at a couple of places so we will be eating at just a few TS. Ohana, Via Napoli, and a new one.....50's Prime Time because we have to try something new!!

That is too funny --- we are also eating at those places. Via Napoli and 50's Prime Time will be new for us, but we always eat at Ohana. Where are you eating on AK day? I originally wanted to try Maya Grill at the Coronado hotel, but River of Lights will be going then so I cancelled our reservation. We might eat dinner at a QS and hope to catch the show. We don't normally go in July either. We did once on July 4th and vowed never again, but here we are going in mid July. My step daughter is taking a college summer school course so we had to wait for that to finish.

That's awesome! Were kind-of in the same boat with our daughter and her college classes. July it is!

I haven't tried Flame Tree and everyone raves about it so that's on our list and I may be in the minority because i never hear anyone talk about it but I really liked the QS Yak and Yeti from a trip a few years ago so that's on our list too. It always depends whats closest to us when we get hungry. :)

Just go with a good plan and you'll be fine!

And are for those waiting in line, like at BOG, to enter the restaurant for their reservation.

I don't recall seeing those when we waited at BOG. Would have been nice.

It was only in the summer... they also had umbrellas to shield you from the sun. But that was before they added ADR for lunch - back when the lines snaked down to Gaston's and people were waiting nearly an hour to get in.

Yeah we had dinner reservations and it was in June, but I don't think we waited too long. Not to open up a can of worms, but at Universal we noticed they had drink stations in some of the rides (the longer wait ones like HP). They weren't free of course, but still. They also had more shade and misting fans, which was nice.

Well this July is our fifth trip the World but our first time going without the Dining Plan and I have just a few questions.

1. I'm not a pop drinker and the thought of milk on a hot July day isn't appealing. I really just prefer water. So my question is will quick services give you a cup of water rather than paying for a bottle of water?

2. I have 2 very lite eaters in our group, is there any particular quick services that have dinners that two can share?

Also I've seen pictures of places that have a water cooler. Were are they? Any help is greatly appreciated!!
You are asking the right questions.
1. Bring a refillable water bottle. We were always able to get cups of ice water wherever we dined. Any extra water went into the water bottle.
2. Most places have huge portions and its great you are considering sharing meals with your kids. Most kid meals are chicken nuggets, burgers, fries.... In MK there is a great place for fajitas in Frontierland. We always share that.
3. Places like walmart carry these cooling bandanas. You soak them in cold water and wear them around your neck. They were a lifesaver for us when we go in August. Get one for everyone!

Any quick service restaurant will happily give you a cup of ice water if you ask. Why people spend good $$ for bottled water at the park is beyond me.

For me it's usually quicker and more convenient to pick up a bottle of water from a kiosk than it would be to wait in line at a quick service restaurant only to ask for a freebie.

That would be easier but I was referring to when we would be eating a meal. Ordering a pop is such a waste for me because I only drink about a 1/4 of it so I was wondering about cups of water.
