Nice things to do for Guests or CM's......

I was thinking about some stuff and wondered what types of things others do for guests or CM's...

  • I always call CM's by name
  • I take Thank You notes to CM's who did special things for us and write to their bosses
  • I thank the vets who participate in the Flag Retreat for their service to us and our country
  • I thank the custodial CM's for keeping the park beautiful
  • I thank smokers who are smoking in designated areas rather than out in the parks
What things do you do?

I don't do direct things like that, but I believe I do some indirect things that can affect the CM's work in a positive way.

-I always smile at the CM's. They almost always smile back :D
-I follow directions quickly. (i.e. putting my ticket in, putting my fingers in the scanner, and hurrying along)
-I never argue with them, unless I really see a reason to. And even when there's a reason, I "argue" politely.

Basically, be polite and curtious to them... say thank you when they make sure you are safely in the ride, say "have a nice day" etc... They really appreciate that kind of stuff.

If the CM doesn't look busy, I usually start up a small conversation with them. I also always smile and say things like "have a nice day!" On my next trip, I'm planning on bringing along a small notebook in my backpack to write down the name, location, time, etc. of outstanding CM's and then fill out the appropriate commendation forms with Guest Services.

As a CM... eye contact along with a "Hi!" or a "Thank You!" really goes a long way.

I have been recepiant of those thank you cards that MommytoMJM mentions, and they REALLY make our day. Letters to Guest Communications are nice too, but too often we never get notified of them. And if we do, sometimes we don't know who wrote them. It's always nice to put a face to a compliment. :) Personally, I'd rather get the card from the guest directly, so that I may thank them.

What wonderful suggestions on how to be a great guest!! These are all things that our family does while at WDW. Wouldn't it be so great if everyone followed these common sense guidelines.

plenty of hugs to be given away at norway!

but i try to make them laugh. once we tried to tell someone in guest services about how we enjoyed housekeeping they hung our stitch in the window between the drapes, he had his own hammock) well anyway the guy at gues services was like whatever. i was kinda angry how he acted but he wrote down the note so i hope it got to whoever cleaned our room.

A very cool thing for your kids (or even you!) to do for a CM that is doing a great job is to ask for their autograph in your autograph book! Usually (obviously), only the Characters are asked for autographs. When I was a CM, many nights I worked at the front gate as the park was closing. I would inevitably meet some great kid or friendly family, and on at least three occasions I was asked to sign their autograph book. That made me feel like a Rock Star! When I have kids that will certainly be something I have them do for outstanding cast members, as well as the letter to GR.

I darn near died when that one happened to me. Same with a friend.

Also, had a young guest hug me once after I told him happy birthday at space on load A side. Darn near died on that one too.

YES! I love signing books. When I was in monorails, I'd draw a monorail, and bus for when Im driving a bus. Pop Century had a star. Not sure what I'll do if I have to sign another book. :)

I've been asked for autographs too. I draw a little Kudu and sign Safari Erik.

As a cast member, I would like to thank MommytoMJM, DDuckFan130, WDW_Sam, Sledge, Captain Hank, Lauriebar and saucymb for all of their courtesy as guests. You're the fun ones! Thanks you guys!

Almost anytime I'm asked for my autograph, it's usually the highlight of my day. In return, I carry an autograph book and usually ask kids who are in costumes for their autographs.

That's so cool! Maybe I should start trying to get kids in costumes autographs too.

People like that should be stuck out in the sun at some food vendor cart - not in Guest Relations. GR CMs should care, or act like they care, ALL the time - period. That's their job and that's why Disney is known for their customer service. Ugh.

If I knew a CM would be notified, I'd write GR more often upon my return home, but I don't want to waste my time if they're just going to say "thanks" and file it.

I try to make all the CM's feel like they are SUPER important! At AK, on the Safari, we had a really sad CM and she was like pronouncing the names and was like can you guys try and say that and everyone was like "oooooh" and "aaaaah" and so i would like lean up a little and repeat what she said and smile int eh mirror! she seemed so happy! Also when im in Animal Kingdom ALL the cm's seem to go crazy when i say Nahtazu!! lol, the nicest thing my family has ever done is probobly when we saw a CM outside of Space Mountain, the girl was dyyyyying of dehydration, you could just tell, she was doing the fast pass, so before i went on the ride i grabbed a water out of my back pack for her and she was like "awww your so sweet! Thank you so much!!"

I love helping and being nice to CMs

That may just be a little creepy. It's bad enough that I have an incessent need to ask every little kid who his/her's favorite character is-- not just at the parks while working-- During shopping, getting a bite to eat etc...

We do this all the time and are teaching our kids to do the same. If a CM has done an excellent job (no matter what the particular job is), I'll make a less generic comment. I've told ride CMs that I enjoyed their performance - even when they only had a couple of lines (but they stayed in character and delivered the lines with relish). Frankly, most of the CMs are so darn friendly that it's difficult to not appreciate and acknowledge their efforts.

As a CM, I can tell you I have gotten hugs, handshakes, big thank-yous and everything else in between. I have had guests take pictures of me pin trading with their kids, taken pictures of me because I entertained them so much. Various things happen at Disney everyday that make you so proud to be a CM.
