"Nice Beast" at Be Our Guest

I recently visited Be Our Guest for dinner - it was amazing! We were lucky enough to eat in the West Wing and the theming was awesome.

After dinner, and as childless millennials, we of course went to meet the Beast. I had seen so many photos online and Beast had posed the same on almost every photo. I was determined to get something a little different and therefore I asked if Beast would put his paws up for a "roar" photo.
I was told no "Beast is a nice Beast now, he doesn't roar". Fair enough, I had my photos and we still had an amazing time....
But I am confused as to why this is?
There are villains at Disney who act scary so it can't be this reason. Yes in the film Beast does turn into a "nice Beast" but we did sit in the west wing with the flashing slashed photo and ripped curtains etc...
Juts wondered if anyone could enlighten me as to the reasoning behind this? I was a little disappointed by the tame, dancing Beast that we met.

Even though you're adults, characters and handlers don't know if small children might show up or be watching your interactions from afar. Some kids get aprehensive/nervous around characters.

I've seen "villains" acting in character, but never in a loud or too menacing manner. My two cents!

Yea, the person in the costume wanted to keep their job. Kids are the primary focus of these characters, and as such, the people inside have child friendly marching orders. G Rated Disney marching orders.

Maybe they thought you actually wanted him to roar instead of just act like he was roaring.
Of course he could not have made a noise and maybe that's what they thought you wanted him to do.
Generally in pics the characters tell YOU how to pose not the other way around.
I'd take what you got and be happy because even meeting him is special since he only meets at dinner.

Welcome to the snowflake Disney experience. The same Disney that removed Princess Leia figures where she was wearing the slave costume because it might offend someone. It is best not to try and understand the reasoning behind a lot of the strange rules Disney has, they don't always make sense and often conflict terribly with how the present things in other parts of the Disney empire.

I see their point I guess, but in the Festival of fantasy parade the Maleficent section can be quite intimidating with the masked performers.
Still yes, probably just a choice Disney has made for whatever reason, and our dinner and meet with Beast was still incredible.

We have dined at BOG more times than I would ever want to admit too. It is my wife's favorite movie and for some reason favorite restaurant. We usually eat there at least twice during a trip except for our two week trip that just ended last week, we didn't eat there once, hmm.

Anyway, I think we did the claws up in a pounce pose a few years ago, I cant be positive, I would have to search photos. But I know many times we have done the claws extended pose over the years including our most recent trip. The last time being at AK when posing at the Lion King picture frame. The cast member suggested the pose. I am a little surprised the Beast wouldn't do the pose unless as others have stated, they thought you wanted an actual roar. Which I don't think you would want, have you heard the one at HS during the stage show, my wife and I always make fun of how unimpressive that roar is. Sort of like Simba when he was a wee cub.

I believe when they win their role as a character they are told what they can and cannot do as a character and raising his claws or acting angry is probably restricted.

Yes, although they told us we could do the pose and we did - put our paws up while Beast stood very gentleman-ly next to us! So I think they understood we didn't want a vocal 'Roar'. Which yes would probably have been a very disappointing noise! :p

I understand they have a character description to follow and I'm not blaming Beast, I'm blaming whoever came up with the character traits. It just doesn't fit the character IMO.

Couldn't be any more more disappointing than the roar at the show at the Studios 🤷‍♂️
