NFL's Buccaneers excited to train on property
Date: 05/31/2002

The National Football League's Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently announced that the team will hold its 2002 training camp at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex beginning on July 29 and running for about four weeks.

While a daily admission fee is required for most events at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, the Buccaneers' practices will be open to guests and Cast Members free of charge, with the exception of the Aug. 10 shared practices with the Miami Dolphins.

Following the announcement, the team's Public Relations Department spoke to Buccaneers Head Coach Jon Gruden and several players, and the department shared the Buccaneers' quotes with Eyes & Ears. Here's what they had to say.

---------------------------------

Jon Gruden (Buccaneers head coach and brother of Orlando Predators quarterback Jay Gruden) " ... I think Disney World speaks for itself - this facility and this professionalism that we're going to be surrounded with. I think our players are going to enjoy it. Personally, I think it's the most important month of the football season."

Derrick Brooks (safety) "I have been over there at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex for a couple of the Atlanta Braves Spring Training [baseball] games, and I was very impressed with what I saw ... We always have a very good turnout when we practice in Orlando, and this year they have a chance to see us practice every day."

Kenyatta Walker (tackle) "It is a tremendous practice facility ... I really enjoyed practicing out there when I was with the University of Florida ... It's always good to go out to Orlando because there will be a lot of fans out there supporting us, and it will generate a lot of excitement."

Brad Johnson (quarterback) "I'm really looking forward to training camp. It is a really nice facility ... It will be exciting for the fans in Central Florida [to see us train]. And to bring their families out, especially to Disney World, I think it will be an extra bonus for the kids ... "

Warren Sapp (defensive tackle and Apopka native) "I'm just glad to be home. It's a brilliant thing ... It's going to be a beautiful time where I can see everybody, and it's going to be a fun time for me."
