I read in the NY daily News that they are thinking about bringing the yearly NFL Draft to WDW. They had it this year at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. But they only had a one year contract with them so they are thinking about moving it next year. And since that ESPN is owned by Disney they have a tie in to WDW. I am not sure of where they would do it though. But I think this would be great for disney it would bring even more people for the weekend of the draft. The fathers can come and go to the draft and the rest of the family can go to the parks and do whatever.

They have more covention space down their then I think they know what to do with. If Disney wants to have the draft they will definately have a place for it.

That would be soooo awesome.

Although, just one problem... where would they have it? I mean, in past years they have had it in Madison Square Garden and were able to seat about 3,000 people. I really can't think of a venue in WDW that is capable of doing that.

I mean, the Dance Hall on the Boardwalk is used for the College Football Awards show, and that seats only about 400 people tops!

It would be great to have the Draft in Disney, but they would have to somehow find a venue with enough room to accomindate it!

The convention space at Coronado can probably fit a couple thousand seats. Plus there is the World Showplace (formerly the Millennium Pavilion) has plenty of space, and conventions have been held there before.

I know they probably could fit a couple thousand people... but you also have to take into consideration the logistics of the draft. At the draft there are nearly 100 TV trucks there, do you think that a convention center parking lot could accomindate that? Also, you not only have to have room for the people to sit, you need a 'back stage' area for all the draftees to sit. I'm not sure any convention center in WDW would be quite big enough.

Also, the Millenium Pavillion, isn't that a bit small for an NFL Draft? I mean, I could see it hosting small conventions, but I think it would be a bit of a stretch for the Draft.

Yes, it is true. Disney recently made a presentation to the NFL about hosting the draft. I know several people that work for the NFL and various NFL teams. One of the problems from what I hear is space not only for the draft itself but the NFL has a tremendous amount of employees they bring with them, they also let them each bring a family member or two, so they are still in negotiations about accomadations and such...I hoping it goes through, I can get in under the family member deal.

As far as I've heard, the NFL draft will almost definetly not be held in New York next year. Disney has been a talked about replacement. Don't know the details or if it will happen, all I know is it was put on the table.

If it doesn't, I believe Philadelphia is the planned replacement.

the milk house (someone with more knowledge than me, please explain why)

The Milkhouse is not that big in NFL terms. I think if they did hold it at Disney, they would have to do it in one of the convention halls. I know Corronado Springs just increased their size and a lot of the Florida political things are held there as are at the Contemp.

I would love to see this, the only thing that I can see keeping it from WDW is that Orlando does not have a team! Yes, Jacksonville and Miami are both three hours away and Tampa is just down I 4, but that could keep them away!

I hope they don't base it on how good the Florida teams are! Then we could bet it will not come!

Go Falcons!
