Newsworthy Things That Happened During Your Vacation?

So apparently that plane that caught fire on the runway at Las Vegas airport was the same one I flew on into Orlando just the day before...

Back in 2004 (I just looked it up to remember the exact year), my Grandma and I woke up early in the morning to head to WDW and while we were getting ready it was on the news that the afternoon before Pluto had been run over by a Share a Dream Come True parade float and was killed. Didn't exactly happen while we were on vacation, but it was strange and a bit eerie watching the parade the next day and knowing it had caused a death just a couple of days prior.

I wouldn't know what happens when I'm at WDW since I stop paying attention to the outside world once I've made it to my Happy World.

News happens regardless if you stop to have fun and relax and escape. First thing I remember was in August 1990 when Saddam Hussein of Iraq invaded Kuwait. My family and I were staying at the former Disney Inn (now Shades of Green).

Two years later in August 1993 me and my friend stayed at WDW the same time Princess Diana and Princes William and Harry vacationed also at WDW. The story goes the Royals stayed at the Grand Floridian and to get them in and out of the parks, the Royals sometimes donned character costumes.

Then in August 2008 played in the rain while Tropical Storm Fay took her good old time weaving up through the State of Florida.

Finally in early October 2011, Steve Jobs passed away. It was several sad days at all the Disney parks and I took pictures of the flags at half staff and this special one of Lightning McQueen and Mater, who both appear to be bowing.
