New York facade on Streets of America under refurbishment

I don't agree. The overall theme of DHS is the making of movies, the history of movies, and movies themselves.
That area is a representation of a movie set where scenes involving those buildings and streets can be filmed. It belongs.

It does however appear empty most of the time except in December for the lights. I don't know the answer but maybe it could be incorporated into the backlot tour or have a tour of its own, with good interesting commentary.

I don't really care for the phony facade panel part. I do like the actual buildings and streets.

:)

don't know how feasible it would be, but even if they were able to add real dining and shops, for example, a New York style deli in NY or even recreate Little Italy from The Godfather, maybe some actors walking aroung and street vendors, policemen, etc, something to give it all some life.

^ This. What it needs is some Streetmosphere, where the street set suddenly becomes a hot set. Add the Chicago street across from the San Francisco and then you could have three versions of Streetmosphere ready to go to give the place a little life.

(And remove the Power Rangers while we're at it - just don't belong in a Disney set. I could see a Spiderman streetmosphere movie being "shot: on the New York street though)

Looking at an aerial view, I just can't see where there would be enough space to add a decent enough sized attraction. Possibly down at the corner facade behind Muppetvision, but then you get rid of the Singin' in The Rain street recreation.

There are plenty of other places to begin adding attractions without removing the streets just yet.

If you look at the area on google earth, it's basicly a big Y shaped area. The main stretch, which I believe is New York is a main thoroughfair that starts just after Star Tours. You can go straight to the muppets or go right to NYC. Keep that main stretch, and elimate the smaller triangular area. There is a very large courtyard area there in front of the stunt show and heading towards Pixar. Also, the HISTK play area is tucked away behind a building facade, that facade can be eliminated and then open things up for 1 attraction. You can eliminate some of the streets but still keep the main stretch intact and still have room to add an attraction. Then ofcourse there's eliminating/replacing the backlot tour. If they were able to do that, that could open alot of possibilities. New attractions could be Hollywood/Studio-centric, I'm sure imagineers could keep consistent themes for rides/attractions based on the original vision for the park. Right now that area outside the stunt show is a mish-mosh meet n greets that lack a pointed purpose other than being filler. All I'm saying is you can add a legitimate anchor to a park that needs more attractions and improvement.

Wow! I didn't know about The Great Muppet Movie Ride and Toontown Trolley. I must say I am kind of glad the latter was never built, though, since we got ToT instead, but that Muppet ride would have been awesome and hilarious.

Shortly after I posted the article on RetroJunk (YES, I'm the one who wrote that article), I found out that Toontown Trolley was actually going to be built by R&RC.

What ever happened to the Chicago facade that they were supposed to put up? Was that ever officially announced or was it just rumor?

Came in here to post this. The Chicago facade would really be a great addition to the SoA. I really wish they would install that.

Like others, I wish they would do something with this area to bring some life to it. I find it depressing at the moment. When I walk down there, I feel like I'm in the park that should have been but wasn't. I love the Streetmosphere idea. I think they should do some sort of parade down there at the very least to get people over there. As it is now, you can pretty much avoid this area and most people do.

Great news on the refurb of this area -- it is long overdue!

The facades of the buildings have faded so much that the details no longer show up on photos. It throws the whole 3-D illsuion off.

ANYONE HAVE ANY PICS OF THE FINISHED PRODUCT???

I think they are in the OP post. Or the home page. I know I saw them.

BTW, what was supposed to go in the area?
