New Years Eve Suggestions

Hey Gang,
Looking for some New Years Eve (Day and Night) suggestions w/ a four year old. We're not looking to make it to midnight but would like a parade and or fireworks. I am told the MK reaches guest capacity around ten in the morning. Are the other three parks reaching that level of attendance at that time also? Ideally we'd like to sleep a little later and slip into a park around noon with a ADR made for dinner. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

If you want to go in mk unfortunately you would need to go in earlier. I know you would want to sleep in but ...holidays are rough esp. in christmas/new years time.

It was harsh when i was there

nearly 2 hours just to get out of the park after the osburn light spectacular at dhs

Do this.

Epcot is a very large park and doesn't feel as mobbed as Magic Kingdom. Still packed, you won't get on any rides so don't plan on it. Spend the day at the Resort pool--head into Epcot around time for an ADR you made for a World Showcase Restaurant. Take a long dinner, do a lap around world showcase and find a spot for the first showing of Illuminations at 8:40 (if I remember correctly). Then head back to your Resort, or to another place.

That's what we do on NYE---but we'll stay for the midnight fireworks

How bad do lines get on New Years? How about rides that usually have no lines (like Carousel of Progress)
The lines are very long and are just plain ridiculous if you ask me, so if you are planning to head out into a WDW park near new years or on new years, don't plan on going on an attraction...it's just to hectic. All the fastpass attractions have no more fastpasses by 10 AM, and the standby waits usually end up heading past 250+ minutes for the E-Ticket attractions. All the rides and shows have lines...even Journey Into Imagination...can you believe that?! All the parks get crowded, especially on the main paths that it feels like a rock concert because you're just body to body with strangers. If I went on New Years Eve, I would probaly just go to take use of the special events, like the fireworks and such.

Not so much worried about the crowds as I am of getting shut out of a park I have ADR's in. We haven't experienced New Years so really have no idea of what to expect but it sounds like maybe a park early and dinner at a resort just to be safe. Maybe catch a fireworks show from the Poly beach or Boardwalk. How about DTD? I'm guessing its just as crowded and with a younger crowd.

I know this year MK hit capacity early but eventually opened back up. That's the only park I experienced first hand because I had to work. It was packed. I think my parents got to EPCOT around 3 or 4 and didn't have a problem getting in. When they close the parks down they do it in stages so they stop letting in resort guests last. My family is going again this year and I'm hoping to get a drink and enjoy the music and people watching in EPCOT.

How do they stop letting in resort guests last?
They start cutting off ways of getting to the park. During the early phases of a closure, guests are asked to present their tickets at the auto plaza. Those who haven't purchased their admission are turned away. Later, the whole auto plaza is shut down, and the only way to reach the park is via resort transportation. Resort IDs (room keys) are checked as guests board the transportation, thus limiting it to resort guests only. Finally, in-bound resort transportation is stopped, and nobody gets in.

How's Epcot and Animal Kingdom on New Years Eve morning ?
One of the most packed mornings of the whole year. If you're going to any of the parks for the morning opening, go into the parks as early as you can and give yourself extra time if you want to be there for the rope drop. During the holidays at WDW the parks open at 8 AM so keep that in mind.
