New Video From DisneyParks- Finding New Fantasyland

I think the video is referring to me, I'm supposed to go there and start breaking down the walls. I know it's me because I keep hearing voices in my head to break down the walls. If you break them, they will come...I hear it over and over again, all the time.

It's not like Universal sold Potterland like a whole park anyway

Universal understood what they had. And they know what they have to do now. They could completely do away with the rest of IOA, and few would care. They success of that resort rests on that wizard and very little else..

But what I'm saying is, companies (and people) will always oversell themselves and their products. That's just how it works.

Terribly dumb. This represents what is wrong with Disney's marketing today. They are blowing the project way out of proportion...

Agree.

It's not like Carsland, or Potterland. When it "opens" it will have just Mermaid and Be Our Guest as the big draws, 7DMT is still over a year away from opening, you could have a lot of disappointed guests who might get the impression that it is finished.

I think Mermaid, and Enchanted Tales with Belle would draw in families with little girls, so they should advertise that. Kind of funny that this ad has *zero* specifics, and is a lot more exciting than what we know is there.

Yeah, 7DMT might be a nice little ride, but that's not what is going to open soon, what we've got is a fancy restaurant, a nicely done enchanted tales with Belle, and Mermaid. It is almost laughable that they have Dumbo's Circusland on the map as Dumbo is old hat, and the Great Goofini is just a very lightly themed kids rollers coaster. People expecting to explore something amazing are going to be very disappointed.

I know folks always say that Mermaid wasn't supposed to be an E-Ticket. Well, even the train around the park and Country Bears used to be E-Tickets back in the day, will anybody even care about Mermaid ten years from now when it looks even more dated? In terms of storytelling and just pure "magic" I would go with MK's Snow White's Scary Adventures over Mermaid.

If they had made Mermaid an E-Ticket than guests would being telling friends/relatives that "you've got to ride Mermaid, even if you've forgotten about the movie, its amazing!", instead of it just being . . . there. Interactive queue is nice, and the queue is better even though Eric's castle doesn't look fantastic . . . but guests still want to be wowed on a ride that has been "plussed". You can tell that the second half of Mermaid in DCA got the short end of the budget stick, reminds me of a cheap ride in DLR that isn't there anymore.

Lasseter was complaining a lot about Burbank cutting budgets of rides just after Mermaid in DCA opened . . . I think he was upset with how this ride has performed in Anaheim. If they had redesigned the ride, and had a bigger budget, then they'd have something to crow about.

Remember how the early ads for DCA didn't show much? The Belle area of FLE will be very nice to walk around, but I think the lack of quality rides will be a problem. Dumbo (old), Mermaid (cheap), and Great Goofini (old and lame) . . . how can this not disappoint guests?

If WDW is out of your way, don't visit the "New Fantasyland" until the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train opens . . .

Not exactly. Apple just launched the iPhone 5 . . . they don't have to spend *anything* on advertising b/c the company is followed closely in the news and there are faithful fans.

Hardcore Disney fans know what is going on at Disney, and if the New Fantasyland was really amazing, it would be all over the web.

Carsland was way undersold, it is so much more amazing that the brief commercials ABC did, and really kind of humble how it was portrayed when its really like they improved on the grand canyon and mother nature when you see it for the first time. I loved the rides even more than I thought I would.

The problem with overselling stuff is you get disgruntled guests, and bad word of mouth. You don't want to get guests' hopes up, and then dash them on the rocks of dispair if they saved up to visit to WDW and aren't really wowed by FLE, AND if they find that 7DMT is behind construction walls.

Maybe that's the "curse" the guy in the ad is talking about, construction walls, or perhaps lack of money so we can't see the new E-Ticket b/c it was never built.

But Carsland is only RSR, a spinner and a failed attempt at a 3rd ride. If you discount dumbo and Goofini then you have to discount Mater's Junkyard and Luigi's tires. Yes RSR is far above any of the new Fantasyland rides, but if you compare LM and Mine Train to RSR it isn't that far off. In my opinion the big draw of Carsland (besides RSR) is the intricate theming and detail of Radiator Springs itself. The shops and food places all work so well. Looks like FLE could rival the theming based on what has opened and/ or been photographed so far. BOG and enchanted Tales with Belle both look pretty cool. The village area with Gaston's Tavern. Like it or not the theming in Storybook Circus is pretty well done too. It isn't always just comparing E tickets. Just my opinion.

Uh, not at all.

Mater's is based on a classic whip ride (not a spinner), but it is so much fun b/c you feel like you are going to collide into a "cow tractor", they built the ride so it looks like you miss the cow tractors by inches. I freaked out (a little bit) when I rode it, but had a great time. I'd love to ride it again. Sure, I wish they had an animatronic Mater as a DJ, but at least you hear Mater and the ride looks really cool as they did a great job making it look like a junkyard.

RSR is, of course, awesome, but I was surprised at how much fun it was with all of the twists and dips.

I had a good time on Luigi's, the ride is a lot more fun than what some apathetic APers in DLR having been saying. Had no problems getting my tire going fast.

Anyway, here's how I would rate the new rides (best guestimate, YMMV):

1. RSR
2. 7DMT
3. Mater's
4. Luigi's.
5. Mermaid.

I know some people would say differently, but there is *NOTHING* I look forward to on Mermaid, the ride isn't that long and there aren't a whole lot of details. Ariel grooving to "Under the Sea", fake plastic fish, awkward scenes, more of a grandiose Main Street window display writ large than an attraction. At least on Luigi's I have a challenge, to make the tire go! (And the possibility of raming another tire!). And I dig the theming, unlike the outside of DCA's Mermaid which is pathetic.

I know Mermaid is a super-duper omnimover, but it never has more than a 5-10 minute wait (from what I've seen), I feel like I got an STD just by hanging around in the crummy Paradise Pier area of DCA and I *loathe* the fact that great characters like Ariel and Ursula are . . . underutilized in this attraction. Pirates loads about 1,000 more per hour than Mermaid, yet of course, everybody like to ride this attraction again as it had gobs of details and a long line in the summer. Mermaid is very short on the details.

I was disappointed when I got off of Mermaid shortly after it opened.

I laughed and had a great time on Mater's and Luigi's, they were fun little rides. I mean, really, . . . I had seen everything about Mermaid and Carsland online, but when I rode the stuff in Carsland I felt like I was a kid again, just having fun in Disneyland.

I really wasn't trying to put those rides down. I have never been on them and I am sure they are fun. Your original post was pretty much discounting Goofini (which may be small, but is still a fun ride) and Dumbo (a classic). I was just pointing out that on the famous ticket scale all 4 would probably go down as C tickets so they are comparable. I really hate the E ticket vs D ticket vs C ticket Descriptions anyway. Everyone has their own taste and I have certain rides that I would never miss that would definitely not go down as E ticket and others probably skip over. My real point was that the theming is really good in both places, but that most people only compare RSR to Mine Train and LM and there is a lot more to both places.

I was truly surprised how my appraisal of all 3 Carsland attractions was so much higher than what I was expecting based on the pictures, and how some folks didn't like Luigi's. So, yes, if you haven't been to Carsland, then there is really no way to explain how awesome everything is.

I think that the theming for BoG and probably what 7DMT will be wil be close to being as good as Carsland . . . haven't seen the final product. But that's just one third of FLE, and the rest of FLE doesn't match, you've got Mermaid which doesn't look as good due to lack of plants and an underwhelming castle that screams mini-golf, and over the top rockwork with seashells, (cinammon buns?) on it, and of course, none of this stuff matches Dumbo. FLE, as a whole, is just too mix-and-match for my tastes.

Belle's castle, though a miniature, looks great, *realistic*, and well thought out. Eric's castle looks horrible compared to the films, not as well thought out, . . . and they just moved the windows to the "front" because there's weren't any from that vantage point (or at least as big windows)! Now the side of Eric's point towards Pooh has no windows and looks more like some prisoners towers from Pirates than a real lived in castle.

I mean, really? Cut out the vinyl window frames and move them over? They couldn't tell how bad the castle looked from that angle? Still doesn't look very "fairytale" to me, with all the fake seagull poop, rusty stains, and a ludicrous amount of mud and sea muck on the castle walls, and the castle walls look like they are made out of cheap cement bricks! Oh, they've got Ariel "crucified" to the front of a shipwreck! Not at all well thought out . . .

Of course, I'll have to see the final product, but I think that as a whole, Carsland wins and everything inside of the land is part of telling the story of Radiator Springs, and you feel more like you're on a idealized Route 66 than in the park. Disneyland's 1982 Fantasyland remake got it right by making ALL the rides in the courtyard "match", but with Mermaid, this attraction looks out of place. I think they should have kept the whole thing to look like Belle's world, and then build a mock up of Eric's boat for the entrance to that ride, making the whole land/area match.

Nothing wrong with Dumbo & Goofini per se (though Goofini isn't even as heavily themed as some stuff in Bugsland in DCA), but these are essentially old rides that got, IMHO, minor plussing/re-dressing to them. I mean, Dumbo with the castle in the background vs. dueling Dumbos about the same?

What I don't like about Circusland is that all of the new stuff is mostly landscaping, new lights, new train station, and no new rides. Why even make it its own land (sub-land)? Better than what was there, but more of just upkeep and refurbishment of the details . . . not like something totally new has been added.

Why is everything a competition with you? I'm sorry but fantasyland expansion is beautiful and just what the magic kingdom fantasyland needed. Some charm. It might not have given us E tickets but it gave us great themed areas that will put people into the movies...much like carsland did for radiator springs. I also find mermaid area to be awesome and once the water is turned on and your up close I think it will look spectacular. So I think comparing is just dumb. Nothing will come of it. They were two totally different projects. One was to save the park and the other was to save a small land of a park. Both I think did the job.

I understand now that you are not just comparing number of rides, but you actually don't like the theming and look of the FLE. Everyone has different tastes and opinions. I can respect that even if I dont agree. I haven't heard anything negative about Carsland so I'm sure it's great. It looks amazing. I really wasn't trying to make it a FLE vs Carsland debate. I just hear a lot of people dump on FLE for being unimpressive because it lacks new rides. Usually those same people specifically talk about Carsland or Potter in comparison. On a simple number of rides comparison Carsland has 3 FLE has 2.5 (doubling dumbo plus new queue counts as half a ride for me) plus Splash Zone and Enchanted Tales with Belle. Seems pretty comparable. The pictures of the enchanted forest section and BOG look amazing. The detail work in the castle walls, the trees and landscaping being added, the details on the ground like wagon wheel tracks and hoof prints. The parts of storybook circus that were open in June when I was there were pretty solid too. The theming looked top notch down to the peanuts embedded in the concrete around the new dumbo. I think once everything is done the theming of the land will be pretty impressive. Maybe not as elaborate as Carsland, but still pretty good.

I think storybook circus is pretty much a replacement for Mickey's toon town for the little kids. It will have dumbo and Goofini and the meet and greets in Pete's tent and the splash area. They took these things and moved some around, added a few things and rethemed everything to make more sense. The story works now. The train station, the roundhouse bathroom, the circus train in the splash zone, dumbo and Goofini, the circus tents. They all flow together as a small land. I probably appreciate small details more than the average person who is just counting the number of rides and whether they are E ticket.

Terribly dumb. This represents what is wrong with Disney's marketing today. They are blowing the project way out of proportion...

A marketing departments job is to sell the product and bring in the guests. It doesn't matter how they do it. You think this is bad? Seriously. Look at Kings Dominion and their Planet Snoopy announcement. This is what ALL marketing departments do. Hype hype hype. If they came out and said "Oh come and see the dull boring Fantasyland Expansion or not" I'd probably be selling my stock. Not to mention a bunch of people would be losing their jobs.
