New UK Dark Ride

Lets think for a moment what could be put into the UK pavilion at World Showcase. Here's a few clues:

1) It made over $900 billion in the box offices
2) Its based on the best-selling book series in the world
3) Its british
4) Adults and kids love it

Just in case you're life-impared, I think a Harry Potter themed dark ride could fit in well in the UK area. If anyone's familiar with the books, the ride could start out in The Leaky Cauldron (sp.?). You could get on your liddle omnimover cars on the way to the gringotts bank, just like the little car thingys they have there. I can't really think of much now...anyone with suggestions can feel free to build on.

I realize that this would most likely show up in a Six Flags somewhere, since they have WB rights, somehow....don't yell at me for that though

Because of the WB rights, this idea a'int gonna work.

I'd like to see Mary Poppins themed ride in the UK pavilion.

WB could be aproblem, but look at the studious hardly anything there is acutally Disney, they could always liscense the rights from WB; I mean WB really ahsn't done anything with them yet.

But the problem with it at the UK pavillion is that it seems too Fantastic for WS. THe attractions here are based off of either the country or very old lore. HP is a very new book, it reallly would not fit. This would be much better at the Studios.

I agree...

Thinking of it Harry Potter would just not fit into the world showcase. Its based on a very popular book and it just doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the world showcase rides...

Thou i would really love to see a really good ride based on england cus all weve got symbalising us is a common pub! (not to be a snob i work at one. Maybe its that, being in one all day.)

What kind of movies are set in england? then you could start from there...

Ooooh an idea. What about Myths and legends brought from england? We have the loch ness monster, The banshee, Robin Hood, Merlin, Dragons, The beast of bodmin... thats all i can think of at the mo...

I like the myths and legends idea, but I agree that Harry Potter just wouldn't work in Disney World, I just don't tie them together. Two totally different worlds!

The buisness of it just doesn't work...

True, much of Disney/MGM Studios isn't Disney liscences, but most are MGM, imagine that. :)
(I only intended to be mildly sarcastic, don't be offended)
On the Disney/MGM Studios front, also remember that Lucas and the Muppets (i'm pretty sure about them at least) aren't owned by any of the big studios and can go wherever they want.

******** SIDE RANT ********
I am amazed how often people on here say things like "Disney can just liscence the rights to X Character/Movie/Whatever." Liscencing fees are a bundle. Companies pay millions of dollars for the right to put a character on a cereal box you'll throw away next week, let alone an amusement ride that will last for decades.
********END SIDE RANT ********

As for Harry Potter, that liscense is most definately owned by WB. They are most protective about it (my father works with a children's Health/Beauty Aids company that had a nightmarish time dealing with WB liscensing). Furthermore, WB has pretty strong ties to another theme park company. Think what you will of Six Flags, they have a ton of parks in a lot of the country. If a Harry ride opens, it will be in a (or many) Six Flags parks.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but sometimes, (and especially in liscencing), business is business.

I think the myth idea sounds awesome! There is so much you could do with it. you could make it start out slow (like a dark ride)and just look at pics of england then you would go back in time and meet merlin and then he would tell you about monsters and stuff to get to the sword(like the sowrd in the stone) then it could turn into a rollercoaster dogding Nessie, dragons, ect.

I just thought that I'd inform you that it did not make over $900 billion in the box office...it made over $900 Million... $965,000,000 to be exact. (not that it didn't make a TON of money...just a little correction) (Titanic is still the only movie to date that has made over a billion dollars ($1,835,300,000))

Harry Potter could work. This is blue sky, I don't care about rights. Its fun to talk about it. And an omnimover is too old for a ride like this. I Imagine(since there isn't room), well, I want a hp theme park!!! My ideas:

We begin our adventure at King's Cross Station. And we walk through a holographic whatever projected wall into the beautiful Platform 9 and 3/4. Every 10 minutes the hogwarts express departs(there are many of them) to Hogwarts. It is decorated just like the real train, and we board. The train is like the harambe express or disneyland railroad, where we are all facing out. Except it is enclosed and we are looking out a window(but it is also a Screen). As the train departs, the "wall" turns magicall into the window as we enter the forbidden forest. It becomes dark, we see a cloaked figure, ominous music is playing, then out of no where, a beautiful unicorn runs by. Everything becomes happy, as we see pegasus, unicorns, hippogriffs, etc, and we exit the forest into the Village of Hogsmeade.

Hogsmeade: A village like any other, including the stores of the book. Over head, the whomping willow roller coaster spirals quickly above the street. A 2nd gringotts location is here. Inside that is a mine car coaster.
To get to hogwarts, you either take a boat, or walk through the candy store. The boat ride goes through a bit of forest, then comes out in the lake by hogwarts. It is a castle, and there is a giant squid inside the lake. It taps our boat, and we tilt, but it is fine. and we reach the castle.
The rides at Hogwarts include:

The whomping willow: A roller coaster that circles the whomping willow, goes through a tunnel at its base, pops out of what has to be the shrieking shack, and soars over head hogsmead. The cars are themed to the infamous ford anglia.

The 2nd task- takes us "underwater" into the mermaid's homes, saving the people and accomplishing the task.

There is a Chamber of secrets ride that is a moajor thrill ride with encounters of the basilisk, and the chamber of secrets.

There is a happy forbidden forest ride, with all the good animals.

There is a care of magical creatures class(there are classes instead of shows). Here we are introduced to AA animals from the books, and are given chances to pet and interact with them.

We can take tours of the greenhouse, which have all the plants, occasional animals, and mandrakes.

A major attraction is the castle tour, which takes us through everything in the castle. This is done using oversized brooms(I cannot explain it) to take everyone through the castle. There are also places where you can walk.

I hope I didn't come across rude...I didn't want anybody to think that HP is some huge almost TRILLION dollar franchise.

Which gets me back to my last post...who would have the rights to a TITANIC attraction??? (rather morbid...but it would fit into USF or MGM perfectly!)

Not a huge Harry Potter fan (although I loved the movie) but I must say...it definitely could be a park on it's own...

What about a Quiddich (sp.) show/match!!!

The "classes" instead of shows is a good touch...you could actually learn how to cast your own spells!
