Anyone notice the trees in town square lately? The 6-8 very large trees have all been removed, and replaced by smaller younger ones, maybe 15 feet high. To any wdw regular, it is very noticable right away. I like it, as it alows a much better view of the castle and FitS fireworks. It is also kinda retro in a way, if you have ever sceen a photo from opening day, the trees were small and young there, so it is kinda a through back to 1971.

also in a sidenote....

New CM's custumes for Adventureland and Frointerland are coming soon. The AL ones will be kinda like what you see at AK, and will be for Merch and Outdoor Foods. (i think, not sure though) The FL ones will be for Attractions. Splash/Thunder/Bears/TSI will all have the same custume now, insteed of 4 different ones.

Anyone (I guess the CMs would probably know better than us common folk) know what they did with the trees they removed? I'm sure they didn't just cut them down because they would have activists down their throats.

I don't like the costume idea though. I like that each attraction has its own costume.

Not sure about this either, but in Epcot Rescue Rangers/Hoppers get the flag shirts and white shorts/pants. They can go from place to place in the same day. I know that while on my CP, there were people that were in 3 locations in a single day.

Are there Frontierland CM's that are trained in multiple attractions and do they hop from place to place during a day? If so, this could cut down on changing time, looking out of place.

Nope, Splash, Thunder, Bears, TSI are all seperate do to the large amount of training for each (exepct Bears, 2 days) Both Mnts are 5 days of training EACH, and TSI, witch includes Raft drivers and TSI custodial, is a total of 4 days. After 6 months, they start cross training. So there are lots of CM's that know more then one attraction, and on some days, due to call-ins you might see a Splash custumed CM working BTM or vise versa. So a single custume would solve this problem, as custuming is to far away to send a CM in the middle of the day if he/she is needed right away at another location due to a shoratge. But CM's like the way it is now, as the Splash custume allows for jean shorts and at TSI, shorts as well plus sneakers. On a hot summer day, those custumes sure beat the Tomorrowland or Haunted Mansion ones. But the new ones will not have shorts as an option.

They've also been replacing the palm trees along Sunset Blvd. at MGM for a few weeks now. The new ones are much shorter than the old. I guess it makes for a better view of ToT, but I liked the way it was more.

Tree replacment

Typically trees are replaced from time to time due to growth. Even the trees in the hub in front of the castle are trimmed out to open them up for viewing of the castle itself and fireworks.

Years ago when the Disney Channel actually reported on the parks there was a show called "Inside Out" that did a feature on this very subject. The greensman referred to this trimming as creating a "lace work" effect in the tree canopy. He also discussed how these changes went mostly unnoticed by the typical guest. Good eye on this one.

I myself miss the "octopus" tree that was featured in Tomorrow land. As I understand that after an exhaustive search for just the right tree for Tomorrowland it was found right in someone's front yard in Orlando.

Are you sure about this? This is gonna be brutal in the summer! I thought Disney always offered a shorts version?

I feel sorry for CMs if they can't wear shorts in the summer.

The trees in Town Square at Disneyland were taken out and new smaller ones were put in, so that the trees would match the height of Main Street nicely. The old trees were so big and dwarfed the buildings. The buildings are smaller than normal building, but made to look big and the trees were ruining this perspective. I'm sure they changed them out at MK too for the same reason and to just be on top of things before they got to be as big a problem as at Disneyland. The ones at DL had been ther since 1955.

Anyone have any pictures of the new trees? Or better yet, have a new picture and a picture from before they removed, just for lighthearted comparison?:D

heres a question, with the tunnels directly under Main Street, haw far down can the roots of the trees really go? Maybe this had something to do with it?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Big Thunder has such a cool costume, they cant change it! I dont really care about splash's though since it isnt the best lookin costume. I hope Liberty Square doesnt get a single costume because Haunted Mansion has the best costume, and if they get rid of it:fork:
