New Tomorrowland?

Hi,
I was thinking. Out of all areas in the Magic Kingdom, Tomorrowland is the worst. It has been dying a very slow death for the past couple of years. The skyway has been taken out, CoP is seasonal along with the circlevision movie, and most likely Alien Encounter will be closed for total rehabilitation. What is going on? Space Mountain, the Raceway, and TTA are basically the only things there? Don't get me wrong, great attractions, but, who else out there thinks that something needs to be done? IS something being planned? It has such great potential. Maybe if they would have followed through with their original plans to overhaul this "land" it would not be so horrible. Adventure Club anyone?

Amen!! I think Tomorrowland needs a major overhaul. I know it just got one what...7 years ago? But its not too futuristic anymore...:lookaroun Don't yell at me!!! I love what's there...there just needs to be..more...or something. (runs for cover)

The overhaul that was done 7 years ago, was for the "look" of tomorrow land. Which today, IMO still looks great. ESPECIALLY at night.

What tomorrow land needs is an overhaul of attractions! Not really overhaul, but a few new attractions.

Buzz Light Year gets pretty packed, and so does Space Mountain. Oh, and the unforgettable long line at the Grand Prix Raceway.

What they should do is 1.) close GPR, I think its too expensive to run, and not enough capacity. Thats a lot of land right there, nice room for a new e-ticket attraction!

Also, the bulding for the old skyway can have something done to it too, I dont know what but something! Any ideas?

You forgot Buzz Lightyear!! That ride is reason enough to keep Tomorrow Land pretty much in tact. I think by doing the rehab of AE they are trying to do exactly what you are proposing (although I'm against it ;) ).

Where else can you eat a turkey sandwich with Space Angels and an Alien lounge singer who's feet don't even touch the ground?? :D

Tomorrowland needs a Tron attraction. I've been saying that since my vacation in 1998.

Really, I think Tomorrowland is great if the powers that be would decide to open Timekeeper and move Carousel of Progress to Epcot.

On the other hand, if no one wants Timekeeper back, they might as well expand Buzz Lightyear into that part of the building... instantly creating a longer ride, and more omnimover cars, which would soften the blow of waiting in the long line the ride always seems to have.

You're also forgetting Astro-Orbiter... which is way better than the three other spinning rides on property.

Actually, Tomorrowland has the most variety (when it comes to attractions) than any single land in Walt Disney World, as a whole. I'm also against the Stitch makeover of Alien Encounter, because I happen to enjoy the days when Disney didn't need a familiar character to create a good story.

I agree of some of what has been said.
The Speedway does not even fit in Tomorrowland. What is so futuristic about it anyway?

The COP is a staple of WDW but it needs to go or be changed back to the original and moved somewhere else. They keep updating the ending but that is a huge leap from the scene prior.

They have plenty, I mean plenty of unused land. Why can't they expand outward?

I acutally like Alien Encounter but it was kind of bad planning for return customers. It is only really scary once. Then just interesting. If they could find a way to keep changing the experiece it would be great.

When Walt built Disneyland in 1955, the interstate highway system was very futuristic. The future was always about mobility, and as a kid I still remember the excitement of taking the monorail into the park (Disneyland) and seeing all of the motion going on. In the early 60's before you even stopped at the station you got to see, motorboats, submarines, bobsleds, cool little cars, rocket ships, people movers, and the skyway, all in glorious motion. For a 10 year old kid, it was the future, and it was marvelous. Now the motion is gone in both parks, there is a little bit going on, but with the skyway down, the submarines gone it is just doesn't have the same feel anymore. Take away the speedway and you lose it even more.

I actually think it's kind of cool that Tomorrowland is out of date. Its how they thought that the future would be back then. No one goes back to change movies that have a recent date but the societies are still too futuristic. Plus, I don't get why everyone thinks Tomorrowland needs such a major renovation. Maybe I don't go to WDW enough (I know I don't) but when I do go it seems that whether we like it or not we spend a lot of time in Tomorrowland. Some more attractions would be cool, but I like Tomorrowland how it is.

WDW's Tomorrowland is the TL one in the best shape.... Our's is still very futuristic, looks great, and has a plethora of varying attractions....

DL's is the newest, yet it is the crappiest... It lacks in attractions big-time, and will probably be the first of the 4 to be overhauled (even though it was the last as well)

TDL's is still in 80's mode, and is the only one without a "Discovery" inspiration based on Jules Verne.

DLP's (Discoveryland) is probably in the best shape after WDW's.... it looks great, plus it has (arguably) the best Space Mountain on any Disney property

I think Tomorrowland is in pretty good shape, but is not perfect by any stretch. The Galaxy Palace Theater is still empty, Timekeeper is gone, CoP is hardly ever open, and AE just doesn't have enough of an audience. I think that a few changes needs to be made, but other than that, I don't think it's too bad. It's not my favorite land, but it's still an enjoyable place in MK.

I can't believe that some people are complaining about our Tomorrowland! Have you guys ever seen Disneyland's Tomorrowland? It's a total joke! The people who are complaining must have never been to Disneyland because they would be thanking their lucky stars that we have what we have...

Tomorrowland was at one point the best Magic Kingdom land, in my opinion.

These years were 1995-1998.

Since then...

*Timekeeper made seasonal.
*CoP made seasonal.
*Character invasion with Buzz Lightyear and Stitch.

What a shame.

The character invasion is not something to fear. it can actually be a good thing. Look at Buzz Lightyear. It is by far one of the best and most popular attractions in the entire land, let alone the entire park. I have high hopes that Stitch will do the same thing. Look at the other lands as well. Splash Mountain is ecentially a character-themed ride and it's also one of the most popular and beloved MK attractions. People love the characters, they go to WDW to see them and to be part of their stories. There's nothing wrong with having them in other lands besides Fantasyland and Toontown as long as they fit the themes of the lands, which Buzz, Stitch, and Song of the South surely do in their respective lands.

That's true, but you don't want too much of somthing. I think that every land in the MK ( besides fantaseyland and toon town ) should have just at least one attraction based off of disney characters. Yes, disney characters make some rides great, but disney is very good at making attractions where there's no disney characters at all. Look at Mission: Space, Test Track, SE, Space Mountain, and lots of other things.

WDW's tomorrowland is definately best in shape, but maybe not attraction wise. I think they should move CoP to EPCOT, open time keeper and keep it open, put an attraction in the Galaxy Palace theater, etc. Meeko, AE does have quite an audience. It loads alot quicker than buzz because it takes at least 40 people in at a time. Some times there's not relly much of a line at all because of this. Stitch needs to replace somthing else other than AE.

Actually the Tomorrowland you see today was only put in place in the mid 90s. It is suppose to represent the future that Jules Verne saw. The reason they did this was because they realized that you can never keep up with it (The version they did in the 70s looked like, well the 70s). So they decided to go with Verne's version because it was one that will never be and that was ok.

I have no problem with the way Tomorrowland looks, I just think it is needing some new attractions added.

The only reason I thought the Speedway did not fit was it still looks like the 70s. I thought it should be moved or given a more Jules Verne look is all.

I still think it is a fun ride for kids. In fact I look forward to taking my daughter who will be 4 when we go next year on it. I can let her steer (and knock all my teeth out every time we hit the track) while I push the gas the same way my father did for me when I was a kid.

I just think it needs some sprucing up.

As for characters, it's popularity vs. substance.

Buzz Lightyear is an AMAZING ride...but compared to Dreamflight, it has no "essence" of Tomorrow...it doesn't educate or inspire about the future. It's about... hitting Z's.

Don't get me wrong...I always love to enjoy the Spaceranger Spin (when it's clean  ) - but as for Disney foundational value. . .

I'm not saying that attractions without characters are a bad thing. On the contrary, some of my favorite attractions do not feature any characters at all, such as Big Thunder Mountain, Mission: SPACE, American Adventure, Maelstrom, Tower of Terror, etc. I'm just saying that I don't think that adding a character themed attractionto a land, like Buzz into Tomorrowland, is not a negative along the lines of making COP or other attractions seasonal, as GH implied.

As for my saying that Alien doesn;t have too large of an audience, I mean that the crowd that would do the ride, is not the same crowd that would go to MK. AE is really more of an attraction that has the same type of audience as Universal or even MGM. It just seems out of place at MK. To me, it's like a dog in the monkey cage. Not necisarily bad, but definatly out of place. Of course, if you don't like "dogs".. :animwink:

I wasn't initially against Buzz Lightyear at the start. I'm not against it now. It's not a bad attraction. I was sad to see Dreamflight go...

HOWEVER...

When I heard of Stitch's coming into the Alien Encounter, it seems to be rooted from Buzz (i.e. characters "invasion")...

That's all. :)
