New Tomorrowland @ Disneyland? Is this the year it finally gets announced? No, and that’s OK

I think I've said this before but everyone here should be beyond thrilled they nixed the Tomorrowland re-do plans they had set to announce at last D23. It would have been an incredible disappointment. Truly colossal.

Last I heard, and this was almost 18 months ago, there were a lot of people internally hoping Fantastic 4 would perform well because it sounds like they were toying around with some concepts with that design inspiration at the center of it.

Given all the emphasis and promotional hoopla they did around the movie in Tomorrowland, safe to say that was probably the case. Also safe to say that is probably all but out the window now. I'm guessing they're likely pretty much back to the drawing board.

What was planned besides the awful idea to retheme space mountain to lightyear?
Any Tomorrowland update should not add an IP to space mt. It is its own IP at this point.

There’s a part of me that hopes once Iger is gone, the IP mandate will be relaxed and Disney might focus on a Tomorrowland redo that isn’t IP-centric (at least at its core, there can still be IP-based rides). Who knows though, in today’s landscape that might be wishful thinking.

I feel like F4 could still be in the mix. The film didn't do terrible and the characters / IP will still be a prominent part of the MCU moving forward. A sequel is in development as we speak. So while I don't necessarily see every inch of the land being themed to it, I can see the aesthetic carrying over and maybe 1 dedicated restaurant / attraction.

I see Stitch, Tron, and/or Big Hero 6 as being top IP contenders.

What's going on with Space's queue? When I was there Sunday around 9:45 it was really torn up. Huge sections of chipped paint/wall, dirty floors. visible black grime on the walls above where the rockets re-enter the station. I haven't seen a queue that bad in a looong time.

Is that Lightyear rumor about Space Mountain true?
Yes. There was concept art.

F4 tanked at the box office so I wouldn't expect much from that. Tron could be fun but not enough space unless it is radically different from MK. I have a feeling it will tank too. Elio was DOA. Stitch was already tried with Chilidog breath. They really have no choice for TL except a mini Epcot Future World with a Horizons 2.0, Sea Base Delta and the original Journey into Imagination. Throw in Disney Sea's Journey to the Center of the Earth in Autopia's area.

So still trying to will that Horizons 2.0/Delta base idea of yours into existence for DL, might be time to let it go.... ;)

I'm glad the universe is letting all the movies that are made to IP'ify Tomorrowland tank.

Keep it coming. I'd rather have a half shuttered Tommorowland than one based off a Movie. It needs to keep to an idealized theme/concept of the future, not a movie property.

I remember rumors of a Tron Legacy Tomorowland, Star Wars Tomorowland, Tommorowland the Movie Tomorrowland, Lightyear, and now Fantastic Four.

Hillarious they want to tie a land to a movie franchise that is likely to be irrelevant in 5-10 years. Look how silly the Pirates ride is for being moviefied.

A big article came out in Variety as well about how men are not interested in Star Wars and Marvel and how Disney is trying to find a way to bring them back. Funny how now SW takes up a third of Disneyland yet isn't even serving its purpose after all that investment.

Fantastic Four was originally a Fox property. Disney is still justifying that purchase to shareholders (Bob Iger defended the purchase on an earnings call last November). So having another Fox property in the parks (beyond Avatar) helps them make that case.

If you try to mold your male properties to appeal to female audiences, you're likely to fail.

Remember when Star Wars and Marvel were purchased- and a reason often cited (I think by official sources) was that they wanted to appeal to young boys?

And then they lost sight of that- 'The Force is Female'. It's fine to appeal to a wide audience- but it got to a point where they showed active disdain for male fans.

Glad to see that's getting walked back. The early 2020's were just a weird time.

What movies are you referring to? Because the sequel trilogy came out between 2015 - 2019.
