Hi guys! We heard that Disney bought some land in north Georgia and was planning on building a theme park there. Since we live in Georgia we are really excited about this. Does anyone know if this is true or not?:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

I doubt that they would build a theme park that close to WDW. It could to build warehouses for the Disney Stores or office buildings.

Disney is an ENTERPRISE. Enterprises have LOTS AND LOTS OF COMPANIES. Disney is MORE than theme parks. And like ALL OTHER ENTERPRISES, Disney owns and buys land EVERYWHERE. And they use it for more than theme parks. What does this mean? THERE IS NOT GOING TO BE A DISNEY THEME PARK IN GEORGIA. And now for some hard evidence... a list of Disney Owned/Affiliated companies:

MKTigger,

Is this a current list or just all the things that the Company is/was the owner of? I may be wrong, but didn't Disney sell off most of the newspapers and publications shortly after getting Capital City/ABC? Also didn't Childcraft shut down just a few years ago? I was just curious. THANKS!

Um...that's not official.....if it was official it would be under the disney.com family of webpages.

True, it looks good, but anybody can make a webpage that looks like something disney can do.

There have been plenty of public comments made by Disney that they want to make Disneyland a resort similar to WDW, so that's probably the best guess for the next park. They make lots more money when they're feeding and housing guests for 4 or 5 days!
That was an interesting list of Disney-owned businesses. When there are rumors of Disney buying land, no one ever says: "Wow, I hope it's another HazMat Shipping!" :sohappy:

Just an FYI...I'm also from Georgia. I heard on the Atlanta local news that a "major" theme park is coming to the Atlanta area to compete with Six Flags. I'm all about Disney buying land a couple of hours away from me.

this is the most current one I've been able to find. It is current as of 1999. They did sell of major portions, but they still retained partial ownership of a lot of the publications, thus making them part of Disney

nope.. even better, a non-union guitar tech (sorry IATSE.. i'll eventually join). So for me to get jobs, I had to work harder, and be a better tech than the union guys.

I recall hearing that not too long ago also, but I seriously doubt that Disney is building another theme park this close to the Orlando one. Besides, if I remember correctly the people who were planning on building the park were ex-disney imagineers but I could be wrong. Also, after 9-11 I'm not sure how many people want to build a theme park since tourism is so slow. Does anyone know where exactly the land is that was purcahsed? I'd like to drive over and have a look at do some snooping.

I remember about two years ago first hearing news on the park you are talking about. It is not Disney but it will be a major park, with resorts and a couple of parks. It will be based on transportaion -- all aspects of it... coasters, airplanes, locomotives, etc... I wish I could remember where all that information is now, but according to the articles, it was a greenlit project approved by Georgia and would be many years in the making. I think one of the early features was going to be a recreated battle scene in a big lake where planes would bomb and sink a boat. I'll try to find some of that old info, it should be the same park you are mentioning now, since it's had time to go through all the red tape by now.

One key factor here guys...

Disney NEVER builds a park to "compete" with anyone..usually its the other way around.

Hey mktiggerman! I WAS JUST ASKING A QUESTION! YELLING AT ME WAS VERY UNNECESSARY! Thanks for the info on all the companies that Disney owns but don't insult my intelligence! The reason I was asking is because I live in the Atlanta area and on the local news they said a major theme park was going to be built around here. Then I heard that Disney bought some land located on Lake Lanier. That's about 20 or 30 minutes north of Atlanta. It probably is just coincidence that they said that a major theme park was coming and I found out about Disney buying some land here, but a girl can dream can't she? That's the reason I asked if anyone had any info on this. You didn't have to be so mean!
