New Star Tours??

Hmm.. I think this is has a pretty good chance of actually coming true. I'm not sure if he has all the facts right (like, he made a few guesses, like as to when this would actually happen), but the basic stuff (about how Iger would reopen talks with George Lucas) see very plausible.

(On a side note.. Jim asked that people stop posting his articles on message boards, and rather just provide a link)

As I've said before, why bother revamping an attraction that has a ride system that is light years behind Mission Space? I dont want to be shaken around in a box on legs, and watch a film, regardless of whether it's analog or digital. Star tours lack of popularity recently is far more involved than just having an old film. The motion base it uses was cutting edge 20 years ago, but not now. Mission Space has redefined motion simulators, and anything else is going to pale into a poor second place.

Now if Disney were to produce an all new Star Wars attraction, that's a whole different story. :)

Even better than the fact that there will soon be a new destination for Star Tours is the fact that Iger is reaching out to the people Eisner alienated over the past decade. Don't forget that Lucas was also instrumental in Captain Eo, Alien Encounter, and the Indiana Jones Adventure, so this could be good news for other possible new attractions

...hmm could this also be a clue that that corner of the Studios may get another Lucas-inspired attraction, albeit a long-overdue clone from Disneyland?

I hope they also keep the current Endor film though, and add some unpredictability to the ride by mixing in different locations

I do agree, but I think that this could be overcome with a good story and good in-chamber effects. After all, from what I have heard, StormRIder is nothing more than that but it is very effective. I will be interested to see how this all unfolds and if this extends out to the other Resorts as well of it becomes a Pirates issue of sorts where each location seems to be getting an individual version that has some forte of its own (which I kinda like).

Basically everything Jim is saying is things have floated around the net for year to why in The Phantom Menace seems to lend itself perfectly to a new Star Tours ride and even the Bounty Hunter Chase in Attack of the Clones. Apparently the first set of rumors had this project not even ready to break ground until Revenge of the Sith opened this year because Lucas wouldn't allow it not Eisner but the real story I guess we'll never know. Originally also, the original ride sequence was to be cleaned up with trips to Hoth, escaping AT-ATs which would tie to the large prop above the ride nicely, Endor trying to escape the ScoutTroopers and of course the beloved Death Star Trench sequence, also including the Pod Race, Bounty Hunter Chase and an unknown setup from Episode III, of course these were all RUMORS. The idea was that every ride could be one of six different ride sequences done randomly. I hope this does happen and it is done right with enduring ride sequences! I guess we'll find out in September what Mr. Iger has had up his sleeves...

As many others have stated the rumor has been around for a while. As a Star Wars fan I really am hoping that the ride does get redone. More importantly if the statement “What Lucas wants Lucas gets” from Iger is true the redo will undoubtedly be incredible.

I hope its true because the ride seems really old fashion to me .The picture is grainy and the sound not very inspiring and its the same old technology used in Body Wars.Im a big Star Wars fan andd when I first rode this ride I was disapointed. Its one of the worst Disney rides around but has the ability to be one of the best.

I think this rumer is just what it is a rumer. I think that if there were going to do star tours over again it would of been before the Release of the Star Wars III on May 19th or durning the Aniversary speacil on May 5th. I also think that just because it isn't as high teck as Mission space that it should be shut down. It is a corny ride but that is the best thing about it. That you can still go on it and remember that way it made you feel when you are a kid. Plus Kids don't know the difference they love it!! THis ride isn't my favorite but it is one of my husbands favorites, he would be heart broken if they shut it down.

This article actually seems to have a lot of substance to it - which seems rare coming from him. As the biggest Star Wars geek this side of the Mississippi, I can only hope for this.

This rumor has some substance if Lucas is really serious about a Star Wars tv show. Every network would trip over each other to get it and ABC has the best toss in by offering crossmarketing with the rides. This could be a win win situation for all sides. Lucas gets his update and Iger gets to look good to Wall Street.

As much as I love Star Wars, I *HATE* the idea of Pod Racing. It has nothing to do with the Stars, and nothing to do with the Wars.

It was a way-too-long not-very-good (20 minute?) segment of a film that wasn't terribly enjoyable in the first place (compared to the rest) with the single most annoying character in SW history (I'd rather listen to a dozen Jar-Jars than even think about Jake Lloyd's performance as "Annie").

Now, another SPACE adventure would be awesome - but ground racing isn't my idea of a true Star Wars adventure.

I can't tell you how much I agree with this statement. I would love to see a new Star Wars attraction, but would not be excited about the theme being pod racing.

I hope that this is just a rumor. I love the Star Tours ride as it is right now. Sure, replace the projectors and maybe make it seem a bit better, but don't completely replace what is being projected. They can do anything to it, but i'd hate to see the film replaced, i'm really worried about it being replaced with something that i would hate and another ride would be ruined for me. But that is life.

Mission Space is not a simulator in the same sense as Star Tours. A more valid comparison would be Star Tours to Spiderman at Universal or Stormrider in Tokyo. There's not much difference in the motion/mechanics of the simulators so unless they get rid of the ride system, you're going to have the same jerky motion.

This is something that will definately happen in my opinion. Everyone knows how outdated the technology is, and how it needs a refurb. It would have to come down to either refurb it or close it down completely. And just think what could be done with todays technology.
