"But if you want to see the helicopter buzz both parks, you'd be wise to set up camp on Harbor Blvd. for the first test flight at 3:00 AM Wednesday morning (six hours from now). Tom Fitzgerald and a bevy of bigwigs from WDI will be in the parking lot turned heliport south of Tower of Terror to review the footage after each flight pass. Several additional flights will happen through the last flight around 6:30 AM. The flight path will be MUCH LOWER than the original 1999 flight path, and the camera will be just below the peak of the Carthay Circle Tower in DCA and buzz just 10 feet above the rooftops of Main Street USA at Disneyland. This new version of Soarin' will be a much more intimate version of the 2001 film, which was filmed at a much higher altitude.
The 2001 film was captured in December, 1999 during a Cast Member Christmas Party, before that annual event was cancelled per Florida executives. The 2014 digital image capture ("Filming" is no longer the word) will be much lower to the ground and much easier to digitally add in people or characters or anything on the ground they want added in."
