New Small World Tee

It seems that Disney is feeding into the notion that small world is annoying with this t-shirt. That's sad. Celebrate the attraction, don't feed into the negative opinions about it.

I wouldn't buy any one of those other shirts. The modern references on them drive me nuts. I was just at Disneyland the other day, and I saw a shirt with a "cool Mickey" and under him, it read "Swaggy." Really? I wanted to take all of those shirts and throw them in the trash.

Just give me a shirt with Mickey Mouse, Donald or whoever else on it, with no words and call it a day.

It seems to me that anyone that would be offended by the "I conquered" T-shirt are taking their Theme Park Rides way, way to seriously. I found that it makes more fun of the wearer then the ride. How much of a ride scaredy cat can one be then to feel like Small World was something that needed to be overcome. It's just a comical twist on the roller coaster junkies.

True, and probably one of the most important ones presented in any of the Disney theme parks.
I do feel IMO that it's not a big deal to have fun with the ride / shirt by poking fun at it's tame nature. It can be seen many ways tongue-in-cheek. Poking fun at it's pace or it's repetitive song. I know my 6 and 8 year old nephews acted like we were putting them through some form of cruel and unusual torture when we had them ride this ride with us. I know many non-Disney fanatics who think this ride is the worst thing in the world.

I love the genie shirt! Must have! Donald's is cool too. My cousin came back from WDW a few weeks ago wearing a Donald shirt that showed the duck having one of his tantrums. The text underneath read "The Original Angry Bird". :hilarious:

I think it would not be so bad if there was a thought that Disney themselves and many of their fans had a true appreciation for the Company's history and the intentions behind this attraction. The idea itself (the spoof) is the problem, but the way it came out shows that lack of concern or caring for a larger legacy and institutional history. It is sort of like the recent monorail wrap for Monsters University. A tough "tear you to pieces" message is not out of line, nor a real call to violence, for a campus-wide fraternity competition. But associate it with sorority PNK and place it on Monorail Teal and you now have something very different and rather tasteless.

Love for the Genie! So little stuff with him so its nice when they use the rarer characters on tees. But the Hercules one? For some reason seems more 'over'. Either this should've been sold when the movie came out or a few years ago when the meme was still new. Looks to me more like someone was fiddling around with different tee ideas on Zazzle or some other site like that.

This phrase is actually still used very widely. With the Anchorman 2 movie coming out in a couple months, I'm sure the phrase will pick up by those who don't already use it.

Taken by itself I would fully agree. They have put a lot of love out recently though for Its a Small World, by releasing some high-quality items into the Disney Stores, even going so far as to include information about it's legacy on the store displays (Mary Blair). I think that there is room for both, treating the ride as a major historical icon, while still poking fun at it here and there.

Small world is a boat ride with what appears to be millions of dolls coming to life with a song that embeds in ones mind. It has a sweet message but serious? Serious in intent but certainly not serious in it's presentation. It's fun and creates, to some, a warm feeling that all things are wonderful and for that few minutes they are. However, it has a lot of room to have fun poked at it without hurting its purpose at all.

They're not dolls... They're children imploring the world to recognize there's so much that we share.

I think the shirts are funny, probably will not buy one but not offended by them either. There are some people out there with a fear of dolls, yes it is a real phobia and if they ride IASW then they should buy the shirt. Like other people have said just a funny take off of the roller coaster shirts.

I meant to comment on the IASW part last night...like anything Disney, there are going to be people who like it and people who don't. As a person who loves IASW...from the history, Mary Blair's concept art, and Alice Davis' costume design and related stories on all of it...I don't see it as something scary to conquer. To me, it's a beautifully detailed ride that is equally rich in history, has a great message and has strong sentimental/nostalgic value. I would never buy that shirt as it's in conflict with how I feel about it, but I do have friends that fear IASW as well as family members who tolerate it for me...so, I can see how there would be a market for that shirt.
