Laughingplace.com http://www.laughingplace.com/Lotion-View.asp?ID=21&P=4 has put up some pictures of construction going on at the American Gardens Theater in Epcot.

Flower and Garden festival doesn't start until April 15 so I think it's a bit early to start that already. Does anyone know what it might be?

Also, when I was on CP in 2003, after the F&G fest there was a World Music concert Series. I have heard that they have regular performances like this during the summer. Last year I believe they had American (Epcot) Vybe and Off Kilter and some International Groups. Anyone know who these groups were or what might be planned for this summer??

Sadly last summer Off Kilter did NOT play at the America Gardens theatre!!! I was so excited that they had done that the year before but I missed it by a few days!!!! I actually didnt know anything about it until after I had gotten down there or I might have changed my dates to coincide with that!!! Anyhow last year I was hoping that they woul do this type of concert series again but I asked the band and Guest Relations and there was no mention of it!!! Sorry, Belle

Thanks Belle,
When I saw the international concert series at Epcot (after F&G had finished and before F&W started) it was great. There were real internationally acclaimed bands performing (each performing for around a week or so).

I later saw one of the bands ("Brother") on sixty minutes when they did a feature on them the next year. Hopefully this year Epcot may get some type of mid-summer performance.

I had heard they had Blast and maybe a Riverdance-type-of-group perform in years past as well.

Thanks again for the info. :sohappy:

The Summer Series is always a great draw for Epcot. In 1999 and 2000, is was Micheal Flatley's "Lord of the Dance" that performed each summer. In 2001, it was the "The Power of Blast."

I am sure whatever makes it onto the stage this summer will be good.

They have also taped a Country Music Newcomers award show the last few years at Am Gard.

I'm a big fan of the America Gardens shows. Each year they have typically featured a “summer” event (from right after Flower Power until right up to Eat to the Beat). The best in recent memory was Lord of the Dance (Summer 1999 and 2000), followed by Blast (Summer 2001) and Shockwave (Summer 2002). Those were 4 great summers of shows, with Lord of the Dance being amazing.

Then, Summer 2003 they had the World Music Concert Series. Mo'Rockin and Off Kilter played periodically between the 'headliner' groups, which included Bering Strait (Russia), Richard Wood (Canada), Brother (Australia), Baka Beyond (Africa), Mestre Ambrosio (Brazil), and Vieux Diop with Wassalou (Africa). Each played about 2 weeks.

Then, Summer 2004 was the American Vybe summer. And, nothing has been scheduled for Summer 2005.

I’ve written Disney Entertainment telling them they need to bring back something like they had 1999-2002 but their response wasn’t very promising. Personally, I wasn’t a fan of the 2003 or 2004 summer events.

Sorry, you asked another question. The next event, to my knowledge, at America Gardens is the Showstoppers event in March...

They've had this for several years and I wouldn't plan my vacation around it.

When I was in Epcot this week I asked a CM in Guest Relations about the construction at the theatre. He told me its just a clean up and up-date of the Technical aspects of the theatre and getting it ready for the Flower Power concerts for F&G frest.

Thats what the construction looked like at the start of last week, on my way home on Feb. 3rd, I stopped by and they had walled off the entire back portion of the theatre to rehab everything back there. My guess as too what they are doing its updating the lighting and sound system in the theatre and the control area as well as some minor rehab to the actual structure.

But as I said the main focus for the rehab is the concerts in April.

Thanks for the input everyone. Personally, I enjoyed some of the headliners during the summer of 2003. I never made it to summer 199-2002 shows to compare though... so who knows....
Anyhow, I hope they have at least something special this summer....

and was last summer Amerycan Vybe only?? no other outside acts??...
I love the Vybe and all, but... that seems a little pathetic...

Each set consisted of a few songs from American Vybe, preceeded by the Spirit of America Fife & Drum Corp.

I think the Vybe are fantastic in the American Adventure rotunda. I used to catch them every trip. And, I really enjoyed them at America Gardens last summer too, which I caught several times. They took risks with some great songs and did a great job. However, compared to previous years, it was an 'economical' choice on Disney's part and didn't compare.

I wish they could insert the video montage that Fox did on The Declaration of Independence during the Super Bowl pre-game, in the U.S.A. Pavilion. It was very moving and was a fitting tribute to our country.

Just wanted to throw that in here.
