New shots over the walls (August 19th)

This scares me because it gives them an easy excuse to keep the hideous toontown circus tents. I won't set foot in the MK if they go the cheap way out. They have to earn my money like I earn it.

If every customer held to this belief Disney would maintain better standards in their parks. Similar to how they do at Disneyland.

So my spidey-senses point to it being the Dwarves Mine.

Moving Barnstormer to the area where the chateau was planned for.

Build a mine/mountain around it, to create an indoors coaster.

This would cause ride X to be both significantly cheaper and take less time to construct...

Except that Barnstormer isn't moving and being rethemed to Dumbo's land according to insiders here.

Yeah, I was actually just pondering that very thing.
Hard to imagine them opening Mermaid and BatB without having Project X ready as well. Quite an ops nightmare to channel guests around and through a large, active construction site.
I kinda suspect that Project X will require a somewhat shorter build time than the rest of FLE west...

This does not exactly encourage me. It is sounding more and more like a RnRC for kids. Meh.

Does the short build time indicate anything about the scope/quality of the attraction? Assuming R&D is done, they still haven't started construction yet, while TLM and the rest of FLE West essentially has the trigger pulled.

That is the biggest puzzle for me about all this. I thought Dumbo was key to the FLE but it does not appear anywhere close to getting underway. Is it now phase 2?

I don't think I would call it phase 2, really.
FLE west is obviously going to be first in line with construction, since it will require the most infrastructue work, and overall new construction.
Dumbo can remain open for quite a while. The new version can be constructed and finished before the old one shuts down.
New Dumbo, re-themed Barnstormer, re-themed trainstation and food/merch locations will not take all that long to build, hence FLE east starting a bit later.
(The capacity gained by keeping TTF open is also a factor.)

I am going to see if I can do a Photoshop overlay of the blueprints tomorrow morning. I'll try to have them up by 11am central time, assuming I have time at work.

I looked at a bunch of the pics of DCAs LM and it looks like ours is equivalent to DCA around the beginning of April. If they keep the same pace, we should have a substantial amount of building by the end of the year. We are only about 4 mos behind them.
Hopefully that means we could see the ride be close to finish/testing next fall right about the 40th.

I compared the overhead to this http://www.westcoaster.net/images/updates/032910/032910-dca059-sm.jpg
That pic is from 3-29-10 and our foundation looks somewhat similar.

I'll probably see Little Mermaid next year at DCA, and I'm definitely looking forward to it. While the Florida concept art indicates water features leading up to the ride, do we know if there will be any water features in the queue or attraction itself?

Can you elaborate on any of the scuttlebutt being thrown around for the mystery attraction? Is anything pointing to a Snow White-themed ride?

I'm going with Lee on this one, without knowing anything for sure - there are certainly rumblings that would indicate Project X could be themed to Snow White. At the very least, it appears that it will be related to a classic franchise as opposed to a more modern one.

 Nice job!

The area for the SW coaster truly is huge, but it seems weird it would have the Pooh playground being immediately adjacent to it. I would hope that the playground moves.

I was under the impression that since they moved the tree the playground is going away.

The playground is gone for good and has been gone for quite a while. There was supposed to be a small Pooh M&G in nearly the same spot but it really hasn't ever gotten any attention compared to the Princess M&Gs and everything else.

Amazing. I did not realize the chateau would be essentially due north of pooh. By the way, it is well east of dirt mountain on the drawing and I hate to say it but the berm that defines mermaid also seems to conform to the chateau. And the constrution fence conforms exactly to the mill. Curiouser and curiouser.

A common practice in large construction projects is to use excavated dirt to compress the land. They take dirt excavated from elsewhere on the property and pile it up in a massive mound to help compress and compact the land that a future structure will be built on.

This was seen in the building of DCA and Grizzly River Run. Early in the process they piled huge amounts of excavated earth up on the plot of land Grizzly River Run was to be built. It sat there for several months, as this giant dirt mountain. Then, when they were ready to begin work on Grizzly, they carted that huge mound of dirt away and began building the foundation where the giant dirt mound once stood.

It gives them a solid and compacted footing to begin foundation work on a major structure, and helps eliminate settling and shifting of the structure in the future.

That may be what they are doing with this dirt mound in FLE; using it as a natural compactor to ready the land for work that is still more than a month away.
