We plan to make investments with a good balance between further enhancements for existing businesses and development of new businesses.
In theme parks, which form the core of our existing businesses, the total park area of Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea is roughly the same. The capacity of Tokyo DisneySea when it opened was designed to be about the same scale as Tokyo Disneyland originally had when it opened in 1983. So there is ample space available to expand to the capacity of Tokyo Disneyland at present. We plan to make additional investments at both parks averaging ¥20-30 billion in each fiscal year to introduce appealing new facilities at each park in a balanced fashion. As Walt Disney said, the theme park “will never be completed.” By always offering our guests a fresh, exciting theme park, we believe we will be able to continue to keep them coming back.
The schedule of major additional future investments in Tokyo Disney Resort is as follows.

<FY 2005>
【Tokyo Disneyland】
・”Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters”
(Attraction : Investment 5 billion yen)
【Tokyo DisneySea】
・”BraviSEAmo!”
(nighttime entertainment : Investment 3 billion yen)

<FY2006>
【Tokyo DisneySea】
・”Raging Spirits”(Attraction : Investment 8 mllion yen)

<FY2007>
【Tokyo DisneySea】
・”Tower of Terror”
(Attraction : Investment 21 billion yen)I

n addition, we are currently constructing the Palm and Fountain Terrace Hotel (approximately 700 rooms, total investment 9 billion yen), a directly managed hotel for overnight stays in Shin-Urayasu that is scheduled to open in spring 2005.

Since OLC is not an entertainment company, they have greater resources than WDC, also, they have less risk in their investments dueto the profile of their guests. Finally, the rides have to be built to a stricter code due to the waterfront location and earthquake potential in Japan. (also, the budget probably includes $$ to WDC for design and whatnot on the ride)

I'm so jelous! The far east use very different financial models to the UK and US stock market. They look for a long term gain and investment, in the US and UK its all about a quick buck. The OLC tend to speculate to accumulate.

We have to ask ourselves, if Disneyland had opened a DisneySea instead of DCA would this have been a better long term investment? Would it have the same problems as DCA has? Would guests leave feeling dissapointed?

I was hopeing for DLRP to go bankrupt and let the OLC take it over, if only it was that simple!
