Lord John Montagu, the 11th earl of Sandwich, and Planet Hollywood founder and CEO Robert Earl have announced they will open the first Earl of Sandwich shop in the United States at Downtown Disney's Marketplace.
The restaurant, which will feature hot sandwiches and freshly made potato chips -- crisps in the vernacular -- will occupy the Gourmet Pantry space. Ed Baklor, vice president of Downtown Disney, said Tuesday he expects Earl of Sandwich to take possession of the space within 30 days and for the restaurant to be up and running this fall. Has anyone else seen this news?

SOMETHING is going on in the Gourmet Pantry spot, but I don't have a clue what. DD is like a step-child to me. I don't always know accurately WHAT is going on there...

I do know that something is changing there... but no clue what.

even though i've never heard of the Earl of Sandwich, i kinda hope this is true. DTD, overall, could use a few more unique fast-food places. and WS in particular DEFINATELY needs a fast-food restaurant! as far as i remember, they don't have one at all, do they?
btw, what took the place of Forty-Thirst St.? anything?

Hey, dogs -
It's true though. The sandwich shop is now under construction. I don't know what that does to Wolfgang Puck's Express (formerly Minnie Mia's Pizzaria, formerly something else), which is just a few steps away. Of course, they've sold sandwiches - along with tempting desserts - in Gourmet Pantry for quite some time.

Cool info! I can't wait to go and check out all the new restaurants since I've been there last! Just one more thing to look forward too!

I am all for things that are new and unique, but where will we will we be able to purchase Disney themed candies and baked goods.:)

When I am in the WDW area but not actually visiting I sneak over to DTD for a Disney "treat" from the Gourmet Pantry.:veryconfu

Heading for the great escape.
Well knock me up a prawn baguette. It would appear that the good Earl is indeed a sandwich maker. The reason his company’s unfamiliar is that they specialise in corporate catering, and supplying office workers with lunch time sustenance.
The web site like the article and possibly their sandwiches is a little difficult to swallow.
I don think it will be a venue that Ill be frequenting.

I will really miss the Gourmet Pantry! My family and I used to eat there for lunch and it was sooo good. My Dad is literally worried that he won't be able to get their baked goods (his favorite is this multi-chocolate chip cookie). However, I read in that article that this new store makes fresh potato chips....Yum!

i will in a way miss the Gourmet Shop. I will miss the great food, but wut i wont miss is the temptaion to go inside and buy a bunch of food with the money my mom gives me. But now i have a new place to go and spend al my money on. Long Live Gourmet Pantry.:(

Is this the last one?

Am I correct in thinking that GP is the last original venue from the beginning days as Walt Disney World Village?
