Ariel's Grotto is built into the rockwork, on the Storybook Circus side of the attraction. If I am right, you can see around where the entrance to the M&G in the aerial views by looking for the rockwork that looks like seashells from overhead.

Oh ok thanks!! I'll check it out.

One of the most important things that Tony Baxter ever taught me was to allow yourself to be in the magic. We know how things work, but you can focus on the clicking animatronic or get enveloped in the story. Your choice. These are drawings. So, the mountains don't look realistic for Florida, they do for Fantasyland.

It's sad you need to explain that to people...

But I would add that the work Imagineers do make this "choice" easier to buy. At some tipping point, we see too much of the "behind the scenes" magic, the spot lights, the two dimensional props, the artistic compromises, that entering the story becomes a little bit harder. If imagination was all that was required, we'd all be able to have just as a good time looking at clouds and imaging things, as we would have going to WDW.

I also noticed the trees they tested last year on the mountain in front of Beast's Castle aren't there in these renderings. I wonder if they've dropped them?

I think the mountains really need some little trees, even if fake, for the forced perspective and for overall aesthetics.

My big question is that while I realize that artificial grass will be used on the roof of Mermaid, what about the small little potted plants on the walkway and the vines? The concept art above for Mermaid doesn't look finished, maybe even fan made, are we sure this is Disney? (Though I think the Belle one and the overhead view one are authentic). I would add that the little "red" trees are in the film, and would like to see some more plants on Mermaid as it looks too much like a deserted island (plus in the film, Eric's Castle has stucco (or something like it) on the outside, instead of cement looking bricks).

All three photos are legit, they were posted on the Disney Parks Blog. I think they may just have taken to much creative license with the Mermaid one.

Here is a picture of the test trees in the BatB area. The rods to hold them are still there so I am still hoping that they put tree there.

I believe the point of those fake trees were just to check the size and forced perspective. They were never meant to be permanent. The new ones they may or may not build will be much more lifelike.

Exactly. They were a test about a year ago to see what it would look like and to get the perspective/size correct.

Thanks danlb. That's exactly what I was talking about. I imagine that the poles are probably still there for placement and will be removed when the final ones arrive.

It is a good sign that hopefully the trees will be part of the finished look and are still part of the plan. I think they'll really help with the forced perspective.

I think it's going to look great and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing it myself. Of course it'd be nice if 7DMT was ready, but that's ok, I'll look forward to that too.

As has been mentioned before these are very likely just for testing purposes and not what the final tree would look like if in fact they do decide to use them.

What happened to the water effect under the walkway/bridge to the Beast's Castle? In the original art work, a very prominent water effect was present; it has been replace with trees in both the new renderings as well as the aerials.
