New RapidFill Mugs

This may be a stupid question.. if you are redeeming your DDP credit for the mug, does it have to be at the resort you are staying at, or can you go to another one (i.e. if they don't have a color you want at your hotel, but they do at another)?

Your mug credits can be redeemed anywhere that carries the mugs, and the mugs can be used at any resort.

Unfortunately, no. They have one available at the water parks, but not for the theme parks.

Have they ever had it in the parks? How much would it be if they did, what kind of plans would they have? would it be 'length of stay'? what about for locals? It seems like it is something they could figure out how to make work.

But what is the impetus? People buy $3-4 drinks already. At both the resorts and water parks, I think they hope people will imagine they will get more value from the mugs than they actually do (due to the inconvenience of actually having to frequent at quick-service and have your mug on hand). In a theme park, might it be a bit too convenient? And I can scarcely imagine self-serve soda dispensers along main promenades at the Magic Kingdom, in particular. You can't build them inside a lot of restaurants due to lack of space (I know some have self-serve islands, but there isn't room everywhere) and you can't reasonably have guests waiting in lines for their refills: the lines are bad enough. Based upon experience from parks that have FREE soda (Lake Compounce in CT), you put the islands out in the open for convenience. But they are a constant mess and attract wasps. Can you imagine the DANGER: WASPS! signs every 4 1/2 feet in the parks?

They had one at AK several years ago. We bought one at Restaurantasaurus. When we went back, months later, they no longer sold them. We only refilled it at that restaurant. So, I don't know if it was restaurant specific. I do remember being told it was only refillable in AK. I don't remember how long they were refillable. Since that is the only qs where you get your drink, it may have only been good there.

Technically any cup at Restaurantosaurus allows free refills.

Not once you leave the restaurant. These mugs were park specific and specifically for later refills. Even though we didn't try to use them elsewhere in the park, we probably could have. I'm sure people keep the paper ones and use them again, but to me that's wrong.

Yet Universal does exactly that and you can even reactivate your mug if you so desire.
