New PotC Ride darker and much less of song

I watched some poor video of the updated ride and I can't wait to ride it myself (come on, October!). Not being able to ride PoTC was a bummer from my trip earlier this summer. Even from the bad video I saw, the new Sparrow and Barbosa figures looked impressive.

At Disneyland The Captain just got a new head for the switchover to Barbossa. I'd assume the same was done at WDW, but I'm really not sure.

Has anyone noticed that Davy Jones is not as menacing as in the movie? I think they did it to not scare the kids. Also, what gives with the women in PotC? On this forum, it was a sure thing that they would change it back to where the pirates chase the women.

One quick note, be sure to go on POTC at least once when it's not as busy. You can hear *everything* much better.

Right now the ride is extremely popular and extremely busy. These crowds also bring a lot of excess noise to the rides. The queue is loud. People are commenting on every aspect of the ride. Many people take flash pictures on the ride. Girls scream every time they see Jack Sparrow.

If you ride it early in the morning or late at night, you won't find any of that. You'll be able to hear all of the music and sound effects perfectly, and you probably won't be distracted by annoying people on the ride either.

That being said, I love the new POTC. Yes, it is darker, but WDI made improvements to scenes that really needed improving. Everything up to the mayor scene needed some work, and it certainly got it. The initial cave is much darker and more foreboding. The battle scene is now epic, with the music playing, the deep boom of the cannons, and the new surroundings (fog, night sky).

I also noticed a lot of lighting changes to the ride, so I saw things I've never noticed before. I saw a lot of small details such as illuminated alleys and balconies that really make the town come alive.

Another thing I noticed that I really like is all of the new floating debris. There's debris from a sunken ship in the battle scene. There are small bottles and wooden planks everywhere, and a good amount of them in the burning town scene. Little details like that mean a lot to me, and add to my overall enjoyment of the ride.

I know I'll be shot for my purist thoughts, but the ride has changed completely for me. They were way too excessive with the Depp AA's and the last scene is dark, empty, and lacks any real character for me. They traded in like 4 or 5 pirate AA's in that last scene for a THIRD johnny depp one. Seems like EVERY AA pirate in there is now talking about Capt. Jack Sparrow. Instead of a bunch of storylines thrown together to create this diverse attraction, the storyline seems more narrow and less full as it was in the past. Overall the make-over gets a thumbs down for me. I was very disappointed. It doesn't feel like the same Pirates for me. Just my two cents.

I agree and have said some of those same things in the past. They took too much out that was not needed. The ending in particular.

Yeah, I agree. I think these sentiments are what I was really thinking after it was over, and what ultimately caused me to start this thread.

I still like the ride; and in fact, some of the changes are clearly improvements (such as more detailed lighting effects, the Davey Jones opening effect, dark tunnel at the beginning). I even think that cutting back some on the song may have been good.

But something about the new theming was just a little too much for my preferences, and it was the end that I think clinched this thought for me. I think that the end should have been a little more rousing, and the song still prominent there. Even with Johnny Depp in the last scene, it could have been this way.

It took some thinking to really put my finger on what I felt was lacking...

So, like I have said, it is still good; just left me thinking it was missing something.

I am getting a little disturbed about how much focus seems to be on the Johnny Depp character now - it's become the Where's Depp? attraction.

Or maybe just have "Yo Ho" in 857 different languages?

Or some new lyrics! "It's a world of plunder, a world of rum, a world of pillage and Tortuga slums!"

LOVE the new lyrics! Nicely done!

When I got off the ride I had the music from the second movie and the song on the ride. Maybe it is because I have them both on my Ipod.

The song was never really played all that much to begin with... It was played in the cave, in the fire scene, and by a flute somewhere else along the way. Am I missing somewhere else?

The pig oinks the song and the dog barks the song....I should know....I have the two animals soundtracks on my computer;-)
