New Polynesian Decor Testing

I just got back from a week at the Polynesian Resort. I was on the ground floor in the Rapa Nui long house.

On the south side of the hallway (last four rooms), there was brand new carpet installed. It was a very different design and had that new carpet smell even! The walls had new wallpaper and sconce. One of the room doors was also a totally new color with new door lock. Finally, noticed there were new pock lights above each door and the first line of ceiling tiles against the walls were painted dark brown.

Overall it had a much more sophisticated look and I liked it. Made the rest of the hallway carpet (old design) look really dingy and dark. The rooms are currently awfully dark in color tones.

So - is this a new room refurb design test? Probably.
Could it be for a Poly DVC? Who knows!

I would have loved to have been able to peek inside that room with the new door. I bet it has new decor as well. I checked - the patio blinds were closed!

I have a video as well but have to figure out how to upload it! ;)

We need time for things to happen.
wow..pretty sweet. Thanks for posting.
I didn't mind the old decor that everyone complains about, but this is very nice and seems to keep with the general feel of the poly.
Hope to see inside those rooms soon.

The new carpet is beautiful! I have to say though that I liked the other one with the Mickey sihlouettes on them, too. But I do think this is a more contemporary, sophisticated look. They'll have some work on their hands keeping that light color clean, however. :)

I really like that. I think they'll have to replace it more often because it won't do as well with stains, but it's a HUGE improvement! Very pretty.

They could lighten things up and keep that Polynesian feel. It works well at Royal Pacific. :)

I like it too. I liked the old look just fine also. I really don't care which one is there as long as I get to stay there. I would love to see in the room though......

Does it look like the new door lock is a type that would be used with RFID key?

Not sure but this one did seem to have a slot for a standard KTTW card.
There was also a deadbolt lock beneath that. They were making sure they could definitely lock that door!

I had the exact same thoughts as well! It was hard to get a picture of it but the sconce was very contemporary looking.

Sophisticated Hawaiian is certainly in and the Polynesian would do itself a favor by revamping in that direction.

Does anyone recall when the long houses were last refurbished to the current decor? Sure doesn't seem like it was that long ago. If they are testing decor now, I wonder what time frame they target for refurb to begin?? I would presume several years at least but could it be as far out as 5?

They started working on test rooms in February. These are for the next room design since the last one was in 2005-2007 (it takes a few years from first longhouse to last).

Will it be used for the design in the new DVC?? well that would be my guess but you never know.

What will the rooms look like? Well I have not seen in the rooms yet (hope to at some point) but I would guess some of what they did to the suites last October with the new design might be what the new rooms look like. I posted some photos on my Tikiman face book page and I have loaded some on my suites page on my web site but I have not loaded them all yet.

I posted some photos a few weeks ago of the test carpet in Rarotonga (looks the same as the stuff in Rapa Nui. but I have not added it to my web site yet. Sometimes my Facebook stuff gets the latest updates faster than my web site.

I would expect to see the new design go in the begining of next year. The only thing I believe will start to happen this year is the work around the pool to add the hot tub.

Aloha

2007 was when the work on the last longhouse started for the last room design change.
