Sand dune preservation wasn't a thing either in the time period depicted, but whatever :p
That's why WDI decided to go with the delicately placed metal bars along the rocky beach coast! ;) (They are themed well and I'm just assuming they're metal)

Anybody think the fence around mermaid is kinda...off? Like wrong material choice?

Thanks to the OP for the pictures, they are very nice. I love the BoG pictures, this restaurant could well become WDW's best eatery in terms of overall experience. Mermaid looks nice, but I don't like how Ariel is nailed onto the front of a ship! 100% makes no sense in terms of the story, and was just done because old ships used to sometimes have wooden mermaid statues on the front.

Ariel sorta looks like she was crucified, or hung out like a prisoner in front of a dungeon-like castle, really weird. It is sort of nice looking, but doesn't make sense from a Disney point of view, almost like somebody other than Disney bought the rights to Ariel's image and decided to open an Ariel's restaurant and nailed her likeness up on an old shipwreck.

In terms of the railing, I think that BoG, Gaston's, Belle's house were meant to be both beautiful and realistic, I mean, look at the fences made out of odd things in front of Maurice & Belle's house, that is attention to detail.

Mermaid's exterior is meant to be photogenic (though I think the castle doesn't look fairytalish or even realistic enough), but isn't supposed to let the imagination believe that this actually is Eric's castle. More of an homage to Mermaid than a realistic setting like Belle.

Seriously, a lot of little girls are going to be upset that Ariel got "hit" by the ship or something, and wonder what the heck she is doing up in the air. Can't believe that they didn't go with Ariel sitting on a rock and gazing at the castle, . . . I think in a couple years they will remove this really whacked out/jumbled sign for an attraction.

The polling results so far are really depressing me...
It's funny because I was one of the few that voted Attractions. Not because I thought the attractions would be that much better, but because I read the question differently. I sort of read it as from a general public perspective to what would get the most attention. The 99% will unfortunately miss the detailing and focus on the rides. I think they should be equally important, but I will hold off judgement until I can see them firsthand. Unfortunately it seems I will be a few weeks to early this year.

It looks to me like they tried to go for a dome-like illusion in the BOG ballroom. The edges of the painting look darker and they get lighter as they get to the center. Maybe when you are standing there, it will actually look sort of like a dome.

I have been wondering all along why it isn't a dome like it was
in the movie. I'm sure it will be nice in there, but still. Shoulda
been a real dome.

I responded detail, but a more accurate option for me would have been "environment". Yes, most people will miss the specific little details, but I think people will remember the overall environment that is being created, especially once the mine ride is done.

Every time I see a photo of the balcony in BoG that overlooks the dining area it reminds me of the ballroom scene in Haunted Mansion. Or maybe I just have zombies on the brain? o_O

When someone mentioned a fence in the picture of LM I had to go back and look cause I didn't even see it the first time cause I was blown away by how beautiful it was.

The BatB section is looking amazing and stunning too! I can't wait for this all the be opened and see the many many pictures people will post of both locations.

Imagineers. You have done a FANTASTIC job with this. Well done!

Same thing happened to me! lol. I think they chose the perfect material and the perfect color for the fence, it really fits into the setting.
