HI Everyone,
a friend of mine went to WDW two weeks ago and said she saw something pretaining to Switzerland and Spain, after a bit research Im finding that Switzerland was orginally going to be a country but it could not get sponsership and the only thing I can find out about Spain was an article in 2002 that it was in talks about being a country but that was all I could find out.

Is there any plans to add new countries? I did find a article about somtimes Epcot will "poll" people to see if they are interested in new countries, but I article was an old article so not sure how much that still goes on.

Thanks!

I've said it a million times and I'll say it again, SWITZERLAND NEEDS TO BE BUILT! I lived there for 4 years and know the beauty that can be found in that country and that the possibilites are almost endless with a pavillion themed after it too. Walt obviously liked it as he put the Matterhorn in DL and the fact that it was originally going to be built there, there has to be some reason. As far as a new country bring built, I haven't heard anything and wouldn't expect anything too soon as they just got M:S and are getting Soarin' next year.

Maybe what your friend saw had to do with the upcoming Food and Wine Festival held at Epcot every year. Switzerland wasn't there last year though so I'm not sure.

Spain was supposed be added long ago. They even had the sign for it on the ground back in the 80s. I agree, I think everything thats happening is just for the food and wine festival.

The made a "mim pavilion" for Spain during the 2003 Food and Wine festival. It was at that time word came out that Disney was talking to the Spanish Gov't about possibly creating a real Spain Pavilion. I haven't heard anything since then though and don't know if anything is developing.

I dont think it was for the food and wine, The reason Im saying that is because Switzerland isnt an exhibit, I going there this saturday and she told me where the sign was and I take a pic if it still there it said somthing like future countries. http://www.mickeynews.com/Parks/Epcot/Rumors.asp that link had this:

The next country to come to EPCOT... Spain. It's been under construction for some time now too... Tucked away next to Germany it is slowly growing.

This is reasonably hot off the press, but the "outpost" will be going within the next year and it will probably be replaced by Russia and Brazil. Apparently the Spanish government pulled out at the last minute.

So they are saying that its under construction? Is that what "growing" means? I think we would have known about that already. Who has recent aerial photos so we can see whats what.

l agree that maybe they should build a SWITZERLAND to go along with EPCOT,it would be kinda cool to have a Matterhorn style ride at Epcot, there buolding style would also enchance the landscape with their flower box windows and window shutters on the unique buildings it be great to have such a new culture at epcot, plus they make fine watches and who can forget the cheese:slurp:

The rumours at Mickeynews are great!!!

I guess these stories will go on and on and on..

sun_sational - welcome to the boards!

Here is a post from March regarding rumoured countries and their placement:

At present there is room between Mexico and Norway, the Illuminations dock (next to China) and Germany, incidently where Africa was planned for 1983..., between Germany and Italy (now neither of these countries will ever get the originally planned rides :-( ), between Japan and Morocco (mind the `Meet the World` carousell foundations!), between Morocco and France, and between the UK and Canada (Millenium Villages building was only temp - this country could even build out behind the UK (where the Crystal Palace Variety show as originally planned for the UK)

If things had worked out, Africa -as said above- would be east of Germany. Switzerland would be between Germany and Italy, Japan would have its Mt. Fuji Rollercoaster next to Morocco (Fuji and the Swiss Matterhorn were planned to balance each other an the skyline), Russia was planned to open before 1999, and Israel going in too. That would still leave room for Spain. Or Denmark

if i remember correctly I was told during my backstage magic tour that israel used all the funding for their project to fund their ongoing war. Hmmmm... epcot pavillion or guns to fight? hard decision.

Millenium Village was cool. Ahh the days of Scotlands crazy golf and 'crazy' brazillian football. And the swedish part was very cool as well with the four seasons thing.
