"New" parade to the Magic Kingdom end of this year?

This is quoted from another discussion board (micechat):

I just got word from a parade support friend, that POD will end its run in Nov and going to WDW. Apparently WDW reps were in the park this weekend and are "buying" POD from DLR.

Now of course, this is a "he said/she said" comment... but the first that I've ever heard of this topic.

After reading this, I checked out some pics of POD and was pretty impressed. Seems to be a pretty good quality parade and the floats are amazing in my opinion.

So what do you guys think... is there potentially some "truth" to this talk?

I've heard something similar from a third party (not necessarily the same timeline, though), but do not have a way to independently confirm.

One interesting thing is that PoD has both a day and night mode... so it could be kind of interchangable should they need to take Spectro down for refurb at any time, or should they want to offer a "night-ish" parade when it isn't quite dark enough for Spectro (early closures, etc).

Sure would be nice if MK installed lighting towers all along the parade route like DL has. Not only would this be nice for POD when it comes to MK but also for the Party nights. It would add a lot to the Halloween Parade and Christmas Parade. Yes Main Street does have special lighting for Party nights but the whole parade route needs lighting towers. Yeah during the day lighting towers may not look very nice but big deal. I am sure they can be decorated nice or something. There is a lot of special effects they could use lighting towers for, maybe some kind of extra effects for the fireworks, maybe add snow machines on the towers for Christmas, Maybe for SpectroMagic, you know at the begining with the clap of thunder when the lights go off? Well they could use the lighting towers for like a lightning flash or something. This could also be done for Halloween. They actually did that on main street for halloween but would be cool if that could happened all along the parade route.

So I hope they do decide to install these.

They do have lighting towers along the parade route. You can't see them as they are hidden amougst the buildings along the route, so they don't need to be as big as DLs are. Also Disneyland were built for the il-fated Light Magic.

Dont think we are talking about the same thing LOL MK does NOT have the "colored" lights like the ones that are on top of the buildings on main street during Party nights along the Whole parade route. "White" lights yes they do.

This is a very horrible picture of what I am talking about but it gives the idea. I am sure MK could come up with much nicer looking towers than these along the parade route.

These lights would add a lot to Enchanted Adventures, Boo To You, and Once Upon A Christmastime Parade.

Ummm..... can't WDW just create a new parade instead of taking another one from DL?

I agree Magic Kingdom needs a new daytime parade. Parade of Dreams is nice and much better than what we have now, but having seen it at Disneyland, I have no desire to see it again in Florida.

There is no need for lighting towers like Disneyland's parade route. Our route runs directly by buildings throughout that have the same light towers on Main Street's buildings. Those outfitted with white floods can be retrofitted with colors.

Disneyland's parade route passes by areas like the Matternhorn and Small World Area in which there are no tall structures that can easily conceal lights.

If what our Keys to the Kingdom tour guide said back on Feb 22 is true, then WDW already has 2 of the floats from POD and that WDW should start running POD by the end of this year.

I have never seen PoD at DLR (which makes me glad, actually, as I'd be a bit peeved at the recycling parades idea, if I had), but anything must be better than the atrocity of a parade currently at WDW...

I'm not a parade person, but I really liked PoD. I'm not overly excited that it might come to WDW since a NEW show would make more sense, but if we end up with it, it'd be okay.

Personally, I would like to see Parade of Dreams at WDW. I haven't seen it at DL, so it would be a new experience for me.

Of course, this type of thread always brings out the strong opinions of cloning, but instead of simply claiming "cloning is bad" or "cloning is good," I would like to interject a few questions/observations.

1. What percentage of guests visit BOTH WDW and DL (or other international parks) during the normal lifespan of a parade?

2. What is the cost of designing, constructing and producing a NEW parade?

3. What is the cost of transfering a parade to another park?

4. What would the MAJORITY of guests see as the lifespan of a parade?

In other words, if the parade "budget" allows for a brand new parade every 10 years or a transfer every 5 years, how many guests would have NOT seen that parade in another park during that time so that the transferred parade would, in essance, be a new parade for them?

Personally, I think the parades should be treated similar to a traveling production. Invest major money into the design and production of a new parade every few years and move it from park to park so that each park has a "new" parade on a sliding timeline.

I saw POD for the first time a few weeks ago for the first time. It's OK. My daughter (5) loved it. Having seen it, I wish MK would get something else. It does have couple nice floats.
