Another thumbs up from a NOLA native!

Our port is doing...better with cruise lines. It used to be only pretty bleh cruises came through. I would have seen them picking New Orleans long before Galveston, personally so this would be great I think.

Even in the dead of summer, New Orleans and Orlando are almost the same weather wise. We have beautiful sights, a great zoo and aquarium, knock out food. Sorry to toot my New Orleans horn, but I'm all for this. Plus, if so I'd have a great excuse to roadtrip my family back home to take our whole fam on a Disney Cruise!

I agree with all you say...I loved it when my ships called at the great the Port of New Orleans.

However, from a cruise stand point....you still have to over come that 8 hour river trip and 2 pilots, each way.!

It get expensive!

Interesting news out of New Orleans. Seems the port authority is lobbying Disney to put a boat in their port at the new cruise terminal to be completed in 2015.

Besides the long transit on the Mississippi River and the cost of having a River Pilot, New Orleans has to overcome its "party" image to highlight all of the great family recreation the area offers not just in the city but throughout the region.
We like the Big Easy and would be glad to board there instead of Port Canaveral. We need to go somewhere besides Nassau anyway!

As a Louisiana native, I would be extremely happy if DCL moved their port from Galveston to New Orleans. New Orleans is a great family city. If you think Bourbon Street is the only thing to do here, then you really haven't experienced the city. As everyone has already listed many kid friendly activities, I will not get into it. However, if this is not a done deal, do not hold your breath. New Orleans sometimes loses these deals due to corruption.

DCL could happily go to NO. You can't pick a port because it is 'family'...that would eliminate LOTS of ports like Nassau or basically all of them... logistically, it is really easy for KY or Gulf Coast people (like my family and me) to get to. It's not as small or easy to get out from (because it's kind of congested on the river) but I have gone out of it several times and would again.
