I'm VERY surprised that movies/shows aren't on the way out.
People don't want them anymore.
People want rides.
People don't care what IP the rides is...
people just want rides.

And very short ones, apparently.
Add up the length of all the new stuff and I'm still not sure we're going to have as much actual attraction time as World of Motion or Horizons.

Exactly. So many times, even on here, we hear about "rides rides rides" as if nothing else matters. Yes, WDW parks all need far more things to do but many don't really seem to care about much else.

But when WDW has a history of leaving theaters or attractions or restaurants empty (sorry, "seasonal") for periods of time ... and they know they need the capacity ... but I imagine one day we see them all go. Not that I want that, just where I think it's ultimately headed.

The people don't want very short rides, Disney wants very short rides.
People aren't actively spending money when they're on rides, after all.

Bingo .... short attention span is the excuse given, but it's not really true (IMHO)

I'm not so sure the guests aren't complicit in this either, honestly, but of course you are right about the company side of it too.

I'm sure it's a bit of both but I think Disney leans on it as justification for shorter rides. When in reality they seem to be finding out low capacity options aren't the answer but yet they still keep making the same mistake ...

The internet and the smartphone plague are destroying people's ability to live in the moment.

I think so too (although I feel like people would argue they are living in the moment and capturing it, but I have some friends in their 20s and all they do is text each other - right next to each other; I hate it so much). I feel lucky I was raised when I was and I wasn't a teen addicted to social media and my phone. I have fun watching segments on morning news where they have the teens go without and they actually find it ... rewarding! Im 32 and no way identify with a millenial. LOL

Well of course we will get the beyond-tired "get off my lawn" cliche for even broaching these opinions, so not much point in even talking about it I guess.

Hopefully they will at least keep the circlevision movies a reasonable, immersive length for those who still find value in them.

Probably the bone they're throwing to Epcot fans. "Hey, we kept your creaky and boring old movies and updated them, have a Magical Day!"

"See, we care EPCOT FOREVER. Everyone cheer." It's all so blatant to me.

It's the only Disney park that still has Circle-Vision movies and 60+ years after their first debut they're still amazing.

Agree 100%

I just dearly hope they don't get more dumbed-down or (shudder) CGI-ified.

I've never been to Laugh Floor. I would still go to Magic Journeys or America the Beautiful 2-3 times if either was still there.

And can you blame them? I can watch videos of this quality on my phone, AND, I even get to sit down while doing so! As for the IP rides debate, they seem to think that they’ll only sell merchandise if the ride is based on a modern blockbuster. Not true. The kids will buy the merchandise no matter the IP (park original or not) as long as the ride is great. They want something to remind them of the awesome ride they just went on. The real catch is the parents and the adult crowd. The sooner Disney realizes that more respectable rides (like Pirates, Mansion, Splash, Imagination, etc.) will sell merchandise to all crowds, young and old alike, the better it will be for everyone.

My wish list:

- The song stays
- No celebrity narrator
- The Canada movie will be aboot - I know how weird this sounds to today's fans - ...Canada!

Well I admit I haven't tried VR yet, but in terms of the CircleVision movies, no phone can replicate that experience.
Of course I find the mere act of sitting in the waiting area for the Canada film to be more enjoyable than riding Test Track 2.0, but I know I'm a wacko/dying breed.

To be fair, I actually live in Canada, so some of the specialness kinda wears off.

I must say I was surprised by this announcement even though China was announced. High expectations for seamless video. Even if it isn't a giant leap forward, this should get another 10 year out of these attractions while they rebuild Future World.
