Hey Guys,
When I go back it'll be the first time I'll be riding a new monorail! I know that one of the changes are the new sliding doors but are there any other new changes made to the monorails?

BTW: I'll miss that startling noise the doors would make when they opened! That used to scare the tar outta me! :)

Tell me someone please...isn't it true that the Monorails are updated...the doors slide open instead of opening like a door does..(outward)

Everyone else is just wondering what in the world you're talking about. ;)

And yes they do slide out...I never rode the older versions. But I do remember someone saying how the doors were diferent ect.

Let me tell ya...there is going to be TONS of stuff at WDW thats new for you. I mean I go on a yearly basis pretty much and theres always so much new stuff to see it's hard to imagine how much would be new for someone who hasn't been in 12 years! :)

If you wonder or want to ride an old Disney monorail. Go to Las Vegas. MGM GRAND and BALLY's bought 2 Disney monorails for a tram service if im not mistaken.. They are so small and you have to duck to get inside them hehe..

The current monorails replaced trains that had doors that opened like the doors on a car. The opened automatically, but had to be shut (slammed) by a cast member. They were shorter, but there was no standing room back then, everyone had a seat. The new trains, put into service in the late 80's and early 90's?....., increased capacity by allowing standing room, as well as speeding up the departure time with automatic doors that close. The big drawback, you've got a better chance of standing on the monorail, than sitting.
P.S. ......I'm not exactly sure of the year the newest versions were put inot service, so don't quote me on the late 80's , early 90's dates.

Disney just got new monorails within the last two years. They are totally computerized, no drivers at all! The doors are automatic, and the gates are automatic as well. They are super sleek and stylish, always in pristine shape, and have lots of nice decorative touches like mickey windows and hand straps. They glide like a dream and you hardly hear a noise during your soft ride. The new monorails are so awesome!

Don't believe me? It's true, I rode on one earlier this month!

... at Tokyo Disneyland. :p

TDL Monorails are "Real"!

You're right. The WDW and DL monorails are small toys. The real Disney monorail is in TDL. Full size and built for real travel, although there is no place to go.

Last week we got to ride in the front of the monorail and the driver said that the fleet was replaced about 10 years ago and that they are now in the process of repainting the monorails. He said each monorail cost about 10 million to purchase. My hubby and I were figuring the fleet probably had atleast 30 or more, times that by 10 and that's alot of money.

There are only 12 monorails and they would probably stick with 12 monorails even if we bought new ones because there simply isn't enough room for more unless they expand the shop and redo the electrical system.

The cost of the current monorails does seem pretty high, but that includes all the research and development and a lot of wasted money due to Bombardier's general incompetence.

how much research would be needed now??? Isn't all the research done??? That shouldn't be included in the price of each monorail, that should be included in the CONTRACT price for the whole job.

Sorry to bust your bubble but the Bombadier Mark series are the real monoraila, the TDL ones are made by a totaly diffrent company and are commuter transit type of construction and strradel a Mono beam
