I now it has basically already been confirmed that the stunt show is being built and residential street at MGM is closing for good. I do realize, however, that there has been some uncertainty about the Osborne lights this year. I recently received the following information from Disney's online service about a question I raised concerning Christmas offerings at MGM this year (basically just prodding for confirmed info :) ):

>>QUOTE FROM E-MAIL RECEIVED FROM DISNEY ONLINE SERVICES<<

"At this time, Disney-MGM Studios is developing "Residential Street" as a new
stunt show attraction. As a result, the Osborne Spectacle of Lights will not be
presented this year. We are considering several other holiday enhancements for
Disney-MGM Studios and will share details as they become available.

While we realize that it is impossible to please everyone at all times with the
decisions that are made, it is always our goal to provide a quality "show" for
our Guests. Please know that we are exploring other options for presenting this
experience in the future. "

So there it is, confirmed info that Osborne lights will not be shown this year. What is interesting to note is that other holiday enhancements are being planned for MGM this year and they are exploring options to bring Osborne lights back in the future. Good news for me. Also, she confirmed the stunt show is coming (to many this news is probably like :hammer:  )

ADDITIONAL NOTE:

This same info (stunt show confirmed and no osborne lights) has apparently been stated by the Vice President of MGM recently, according to screamscape. :)

Way to prod for info! Very interesting. Can't wait to see what's new on the backlot tour, and what they're planning for the Studios @ Christmas.

Maybe they'll put all the lights on either Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard or may even Mickey Avenue...they have alot of lights, maybe they put them in different sections of the Studios I doubt though that they'll put this in another park. Just my opinion.

That sounds like a pretty good idea to me... I've been considering where they might go, and I could think of no where in the parks, so I resorted to Downtown Disney, but then it would be free to see, and we ALL know that is NOT the Disney way...

But the idea of placing them throughout MGM sounds good to me...

Or how about painting The Hat green and putting ornaments all over it... I'm not using any math here, but I think five million lights would fit that hat... I mean tree... just fine...

Well, I'm glad I went and saw the lights last year. However they come back next year, it certainly won't be the same show.

Lights to return in "04

Just saw this in the Sentinal:

Disney dims holiday show
The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights could be moved to a new location and turned back on in '04.

Disney is pulling the plug on the Osborne family lights -- at least for this Christmas.

It's razing the Disney-MGM Studios movie set of phony houses where the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights has burned every holiday season since 1995 and will replace it with an arena for a new stunt show.

But patriarch Jennings Osborne, who moved his family's 2 million lights to Orlando from Little Rock, Ark., after his neighbors complained, said the popular display isn't going away for good.

"We're going to take a year off," he said Monday from the offices of his Little Rock drug-testing company.

When the display returns in 2004, he said, "we're moving to New York Street," the backlot set near Jim Henson's Muppet-Vision 3-D.

Disney added 3 million lights to Osborne's original display when it moved it from Little Rock, and "we're just going to add a million" when it moves to New York Street, he said.

"We're just going to cover everything down there," he said. "We're excited about it."

Disney spokesman Gary Buchanan on Monday wouldn't confirm plans to relocate the display but said, "We continue to work with Jennings on the future of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights."

"We're glad to hear he's still thinking big,"Buchanan said.

Disney-MGM closed the 760-foot residential street set after the park closed on June 29, he said.

Part of the studio's backstage tour, the tree-lined street featured eight facades, empty shells designed to look like sturdy houses on camera. One of the facades was used on the TV show The Golden Girls, while another appeared on Empty Nest.

Closing the street hasn't affected other parts of the studio tour, such as the Catastrophe Canyon special effects show, Buchanan said.

Rumors circulating in recent weeks on the Internet have the park replacing the residential street with a car-stunt show similar to one at Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris.

Buchanan wouldn't discuss the rumors, but said the proposed show, which is scheduled to open in 2005, would be "an E-ticket stunt-show attraction." Under Disney's old lettered ticketing program, an E-ticket designated a top ride.

Whatever the park's plans, they apparently don't conflict with Disney-MGM's existing stunt show, the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, which features fights and chases based on Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Buchanan said the park has no plans to change the Indiana Jones show.
