Love the Scuttle and Sebastion AAs, but I honestly HATE the Ariel one. What were they thinking with that...thing? :veryconfu

I really need to see this in person with proper show lighting before making a conclusion. Some of it looks awesome, and some parts don't look quite right. But it's still work in progress, so I'm reserving judgment for now.

some of it looks amazing. ursula and scuttle look fab, as do eric and ariel in the boat. the hair on the underwater ariel is a bit meh. i can see what they are trying to do, but it really fails. however, i appreciate how difficult it must be to simulate hair in water without any water lol. they obviously want it to feel like you are actually under water and i suppose the only way to do that is to use a moulded plastic.

Preview reports are in for this and Star Tours in DL. Pre-launch verdict: they're both big winners. It looks like Disneyland's in for a soundsational summer, indeed. (Anyone who reads MiceChat knows what I'm talking about-sorry, Steve).

Everything looks really nice in the video, but I have to agree with a few of the posters in that the Icecream cone hair do is a little ridiculous. It worked in the movie due to the motion and the fact that it was more realistic here it is just too static making it look like ariel swims around with a cone head hair doo all the time. Hopefully it will work in the finished product.

I think what many of you are missing is that you are looking at her with the lights on. I am sure when it is darker, with lighting effects and all it will make it look like her hair is swirling up!

The lights are only on in parts of the video, usually just when the animators are in the ride; the rest is stock footage with the worklights off and the lighting effects on. The shot of Ariel is most definitely with the worklights off. So yes, her hair really does look that funky. :dazzle:

When seeing the hair, my first reaction was "What the &%$#% ?".
But it'll be completely different in the proper lighting from the proper angles.

If not, rest assured, those Imagineers care a lot more about this ride than we do.
And it's not like we see a problem that they aren't seeing.
There's no way they're gonna have the attraction's namesake look like crap. It'll look good, or it'll be redone.;)

Am I the only one that thinks that the Ariel AA of her moving up and down with her hair floating up makes her look like she's trying to swat at a horde of bees?

My guess is bad since Nicole already confirmed the Ariel AA is "off" after she rode it in Disneyland. Check the DL section of this board.

I think it's her eyes that set it "off". Sebastian is best of all of them.
