New load spiel in The Haunted Mansion

This is gonna really change Disney eventually (as far as the future changes)...think: putting Splash Mountain or Country Bear scenes behind glass? :brick:

After you boarded the doombuggy the spiel went like this:

'do not pull down on the safety bar please, I will lower it for you, and heed this warning, the ghosts will only materialize if you remain quietly seated at all times...........ahhh yes and no flash pictures pleeeeease, we spirits are frightfully sensitive to bright lights.'

(sigh) I said that the new Mansion load spiel plays BEFORE you board the buggies...NOT after boarding! So, please, stop worrying...the soundtracks in the buggies have not been touched or changed in any way!

"And now, a carraige approaches to take you into the boundless realm of the supernatural. Kindly watch your step as you board, please."

On a side note, it was just my 16th birthday last week, so now i can go on the keys to the kingdom tour when I go to WDW in september!

I love the Paul Frees spiels, both before and after boarding. I am sure, also, that they know this and will be careful about changing too much (although, you never know... common sense always in short supply, as we know!).

Anyhow, I would like to know what Maria and MKCustodial and our other Hispanic-native friends feel about the apparent "need" to add Spanish spiels to rides like this. I understand the practical nature of it in some cases, but I also know that it breaks the suspension of disbelief that the theming has created. It brings you back to "reality" in much the same way that the film breaking or an announcement from an usher would do in the middle of the opening credits of a movie...

I wonder, and not flippantly, about the argument that people visiting WDW know that it is located in an English-speaking country. I am not trying to be insensitive, but it seems that only the most urgent, emergency-type messages would need to be in Spanish on attractions. And even that argument is week, because it leaves out German, French, Italian, Mandarin, Russian ....

Well, I for one agree that different spiels break the build-up for the attraction, but as I said before, it's better than having spiels in every single language. I don't know if Disney made some sort of survey to determine what second language to use. Now, saying for the Brazilians, the mass majority wouldn't care either way. Even though we can basically understand Spanish I don't think they pay attention enough to what's been said unless it was actual Portuguese. As for the theme, it's really a no-win situation. If it's a Disney fan, they probably understand some English, therefore the new spiel wouldn't be liked. But most of the tour groups are composed by teens and families with small kids, and they couldn't care less if they're being immersed in the atmosphere ever since they crossed the turnstiles...

Mind you, you could have a Brazilian DIsneyland and I still don't think they could pay much attention. I mean, they go on something like the old "Terror on Church Street" and they'd start yelling, singing and cursing and teasing in Portuguese at whatever monster they'd run across. That's why I'll never go with another tour group again, and that's why I used to hide from any Brazilian I saw during my CP time... The behavior of the majority just kills the minority that actually wants to understand the purpose of the whole thing.

haunted mansion in 2020: welcome foolish mortals.. *plays in spanish**plays in russian**plays in german**plays in french**plays in polish**plays in japanese**plays in chinese**plays in italian**plays in dutch**plays in vietnamese**plays in swahili**plays in indian**plays in new yorkian* alright you get the point.. but adding JUST spanish to ride (thats bad enuff) that is excluding other nationalities and therefore is being racist.. ok uhm.. no offense or nuttin but most ppl that live in usa know english and uhm ya most people dont know spanish....uhm anyways if you want to go to an english park you should learn english like everyone in america has to do when we go to other places.. i mean its just not right.. it takes away from the realness and makes it like your just at "any other" theme park.. i mean waht next *hears aerosmith in spanish and english blasting at the same time on rnr coaster* *its a small world after all.. (repeats in spanish)* *everyone on your left is a lion! (talks in espanola!) ahh o well i guess u get my point

ALL OF THAT IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN, SO CAN WE PLEASE PUT THIS ISSUE TO REST AND GET OVER IT! At least it's not the end of the world

I only created this topic to share news, not to start yet another debate!

P.S.: The Spanish spiels DO NOT kill the atmosphere. They only kill things because people are saying that they are!

In Canada, anything sold in our stores must be labled in French and English. So I can understand the spiels being in Spanish and French in Disney World. Its just a courteous thing to do. But I can also see people saying that Spanish is not an official language, while French is an official language in Canada. So I understand both sides.
