Remember when marketing created incredible, creative commercials for the parks, like for the 25th? I know, I’m just stuck in the past. Can’t expect things like that anymore. Gotta get with the times. Yadda yadda yadda.

It is not just marketing though. I mean, it is but as a group of professionals they can only market what they are told to and are given as ...marketable. Which is....this.

It's more that the 25th was perhaps the biggest celebration in WDW's history. This is a very targeted, short summer summer promotion for families with kids aged 3-9 offering some discounts and extra entertainment. Of course this is not up there with what they did for the 25th anniversary.

This is, again, where it gets hard to know what to think of the criticism. There seems so little middle ground between the greatest thing ever and nothing.

Test Track and Parade opening as a part of it would have been a start.

The current marketing malaise is not recent.

Test Track as part of Cool Kid Summer? I don't think it's targeted at the same demographic.

As for the parade, that will technically open at the same time as this promotion is happening, but I don't think they want to tie it to a promotion narrowly aimed at families with kids aged 3-9.

I do. Sitting down to take a rest is one thing, but Disney trying to pawn off playing with a parachute as an experience instead of developing new rides is my complaint. They have not developed anything new for a while, just cheap re-skins while removing old attractions. That is my complaint here mostly, them pretending this is something special.

But also my kids will not be playing here, no problem if you want to have yours do so though.
You are a sack of fun.

The parachute thing is an immensly popular childrens activity. Everyone I know has fond memories of the parachute game in gym class. Sure it's easy to do but the important part is its a more universal experience. Everyone played the parachute game and understands it so the staff dont have to explain a ton of rules and can get right into the fun... thats the point. Kids games are inherently easy to play and learn and yes technically cheap to reproduce.

Just opinions.

We know they could do better. Not just base.

I am not sure if that has been a big thing around here. But having things for little things is different than having really good things for little kids.

I am asking for things beyond jumping up and down. A little creativity....
They gave an underutilized space a better purpose that is fun for everyone, creates core memories, and is a great break from the sun and waiting in lines. And you want what exactly?

A new ride that the little kids will have to wait in line for? Do you understand kids? Truly.

They've just announced a pretty massive slate of new rides for Disney World.

8 of them if you don't want to count Dinosaur turning into Indiana Jones or Muppets takeover of RNRC.
3/4 new shows as well.

A new refurb is coming out this summer. ALL of the parks are getting something in the next 5 or so years. Expanded character M&Gs. Performers and roaming characters.

And you sit here complaining.

So what do you want to open this year that would have made you happy?

You know what's funny?

You mean the underutilized space they just built? What I want is something Disney will not provide. Also, "core memories" is an overused term, and also not something I would apply to this particular event.

Yes, well, at least my two children...and my nieces, nephews, etc.

Have they? You mean the ones I am not fond of either?

I am already on record stating that Disney has taken a path that I do not like or support. Which is fine. They made choices, and so have I.

Well yeah. I expect you wouldn't have core memories from playing your favorite childhood games with Goofy but kids will.

8 rides in ~5 years is a pretty significant slate even if you want to be humbug about it and say you don't like half of them,

It was included in the post about Cool Kid Summer but mentioned as like "this is coming too this summer", so not explicitly part of Cool Kid Summer but looped in moreso than TT3.0

Test Track as substance for Summer marketing for something new at WDW.

Yeah
...3-9 year olds and their families find parades a non-starter.
The main ad for this literally revived around a parent nostalgiac for watching a parade as a kid now with their kid. It would have been a perfect time.
Come on now.

Across 4 theme parks, 8 rides in 5 years as your competition keeps the same rate, not including and while building an entirely new theme park resort complex is hot garbage.

It is not even good from their own standards.

What is the context? And I ask again what would have made you happy?
Oh give ‘em a break. Things must be dramatically improving at WDW if they’re over here criticizing a toddler dance party.

Kids need to expend energy and they love characters. My grandkids (6, 4 and 2) would have a great time doing this.

Not everything has to be for everybody.

Is this line of complaint that Disney should have sped up production and rehearsals of the new parade so they could have launched it as part of the Cool Kid Summer promotion?

I mean, it would have been nice if they had launched a new nighttime parade years ago, but this seems a weak critique of this specific promotion to me. The new parade is coming in July and, if I were in their marketing department, I would probably advise them to promote it as a new offering in its own right, along with the new Test Track.

It just seems like people are throwing everything into their comments on this very narrowly targeted summer promotion. They should have built more rides, the parade should have been ready earlier, why doesn't Batman dance anymore, etc.

Again, not critiquing marketing. They are miracle workers with what is given.
No one threw anything. Posters asked questions and obvious responses were given.

Test track and parade were not ready.
not marketing's fault, but
the result is the result.

They really would have loved an entire pavilion dedicated to Play.
