New Jack Ryan

I was just reading on Yahoo that Chris Pine, the new Captain Kirk, was signed on to take over the role of Jack Ryan from the Tom Clancy books. We have had the following actors in the iconic role previously:
Alec Baldwin-Hunt for Red October
Harrison Ford-Patriot Games
Harrison Ford-Clear and Present Danger
Ben Affleck-The Sum of All Fears

I for one like this choice but I wanted to see what others take are on this choice.

I enjoyed the first three but just didn't get impressed at all by Affleck and his portrail of the Ryan character. I am a diehard Ford fan but the best in my view was Red October and Baldwins portrail. What are your opinions?

I guess it's an OK choice. Gonna look young though. Where are they starting from? Are they changing the characters bio? In 2009, Jack would be 59 years old. Are they going to make retro pieces? That would work then.

But they need to erase how they set him up in the old "Hunt" and go back to the canon of the novels. That makes more sense. And do the darned things in order.

Of a bigger concern is that I don't ever see them doing Debt of Honor or Executive Orders. I doubt people worldwide could handle those subjects, as portrayed in the novels, on the big screen.

Personally, I would rather see Without Remorse or Rainbow Six - more interesting subject matter. And think of all the gamers who would go see the latter.

I have been hoping for a good Rainbow Six movie since I first read the book when it came out...:brick:

I have confidence they can "re-boot" the Jack Ryan universe...but they really do have to be faithful to the books, no matter how painful or un-PC they may be.

The Hunt for Red October was the best Ryan movie...by far. As much as I like Ford, he just wasn't Jack Ryan.

Hunt for Red October is in my top ten. Sean Connery and the entire cast were first rate.

"Yeah, I don't react too well to bullets!"
